Viewing this in the unlikely, totally optimistic way: how good would it feel to sweep the Cardinals to end the season, win the division, and knock them out of the playoffs?

Don't even need a sweep to do that. It's also unlikely, but Cubs, Tigers, Rockies, and Dodgers winning today means that the Cubs need to only win one of the final 2 to simultaneously win the division and eliminate St. Louis.

If both games today go our way, then we will have 6 chances to get into the NLDS. Saturday (Cubs game + Brewers game), Sunday (Cubs game + Brewers game), Monday division tie breaker, Tuesday wild card game.

Not to get too far ahead of myself but if the Cubs advance out of the NLDS and if it happens to be against Milwaukee/LA/ST Louis. Awaits them in the NLCS would be ATL/Colorado. I like their chances to get back to the WS. Lots of horsefeathers has to go their way this weekend though.

not sure I love the bote over Schwarber since Kyle feasts off low velocity pitchers

The only thing I can think of is that they don't want Bryant at 3B with a sore wrist (glove hand, right?)

Otherwise, I definitely prefer Schwarber over Bote vs Wainwright.

I personally don't want to see a play-in game. I'd rather straight lose and go to the wildcard than have a play-in game. I'm not sure if anyone has noticed, but we would be lined up to face Quintana in a play-in game. And what if we lose that game and use most of our best relievers? It just doesn't sit well.

More insane logic from brewerfan.net.

A play in game affords you two chances to get into the NLDS. But just skip to the WC game when its one and done if you lose.

Although I'm not expecting much in the playoffs, given this fucked up season, I wouldn't be surprised if that happened. We've seen good teams struggle through the regular season only to put it together in the post season.

Well they haven’t had much reason to get how playoffs work
