I would like to see Albert Almora lead off by getting on base, and then pinch running Gore for him right away and trying to steal a run.

Sort of like how the Rays start games with bullpen guys first. The huge problem with this would obviously be Almora actually getting on base.

Theory: most starters like to start a game with a strike.

There is a high likely hood the first pitch of the game will be a FB

Now heres the kicker: Almora happens yo be offensively good at one thing: hitting fastballs

Proposition: tell Almora to swing at the first pitch he sees while leading off

The Cubs are going to lose 5 games in a row. I can feel it in my bone.

that wouldn't be crushing enough, they'll win just enough games to not win the division

anyway, in real talk, if they win tonight and the pirates lose, we're like, totally ok.

as frustrated as i am *during* the games, i'm pretty serene right now

Also, I miss those charts from a couple days ago that had what each team needed to do to catch the Cubs. When looking at them, you sort of are comforted when a team needs to go like 6-1 to catch you............until that team goes like 7-0.

Records to tie

Cubs / Brewers / Cardinals

4-1 / 4-0

3-2 / 3-1

2-3 / 2-2

1-4 / 1-3

0-5 / 0-4 / 4-0

Well, I don't miss them anymore.

I think by far the worst thing that would happen if the Cubs tie the Brewers. Although if they did, the pitcher that would be lined up to pitch on Monday is....Jose Quintana.

If you asked me in April, this is the lineup I would have expected to see in the 5th to last game of the season, but for completely different reasons.

i'm already sick of the fatigue excuse. I know there is probably plenty of merit to it, but I really dont want to hear about that in the offseason. the main problems are that we completely whiffed on last offseasons moves, Bryant broke, and some young hitters fell flat on their faces.

It’s foolish to think fatigue isn’t playing or has played a role, but yes I agree. It’s not the main or only reason of the dozen plus things that kept us from winning the division with ease. I do think fatigue is a big reason Willy fell off, however.

Well the good news about today is, one of the 3 following scenarios will definitely occur by the end of the night:

-The Cubs officially clinch a playoff spot (Cubs win or Cardinals loss)

-The Cubs will wake up on Thursday in 1st place (Cubs win or Cardinals win)

-Both (Cubs and Cardinals win)

Seems like an odd time to give Zobrist a day off. Heyward at cleanup is also pretty perplexing. I get that Nova is terrible against lefties, but that's what Schwarber is for.

I dont know I think its a bigger reason than you think. They've worked 40 of 41 days or whatever while traveling around the country. Your concentration is bound to slip a little, if you start to get in a slump its difficult to break out of it without any sort of mental break, you have the emotional fatigue of not spending enough time with your family, your little aches and pains don't go away because there is not ample time to rest.

There's no way to quantify it but I think a lot of things just add up to playing worse.
