See. This is why PCA is such a good teammate. He makes sure his fellow teammates don't get injured like this. Mervis you left the Cubs before having PCA teach you a valuable lesson.

Kyle Hendricks in his last start gave up a homer to Jorge Soler and was replaced in the game by Carl Edwards Jr.

That is quite the feat given they are teammates.

I remember people being mad we drafted Brendon Little over Nate Pearson in 2017. Well we basically traded them for each other with the Blue Jays and Pearson has been a hot mess this year while Little has a 2.00 ERA/2.38 FIP and 14 K/9 as the top lefty out of Toronto's pen and leading the AL in appearances (at least he was the other day).

So, so happy for Javy.  Even when he was struggling I was still a fan.

Speaking of former Cubs, Isaac Paredes hit a walk off homer last night too.

I'll just leave this here

I've never bought a jersey that wasn't a Cubs jersey.  I may have to get a Baez Tigers jersey.

Paywalled, but a really excellent article. Seems like Javy is extremely respected in the locker room and was even when he was playing terrible.

It’s hard to ignore the fact that the Tigers have taken back-to-back games from the Boston Red Sox, the team that lured away white-whale free agent Alex Bregman this winter. The Red Sox are a good team. They have also already endured bouts of drama centered on Rafael Devers moving to DH, then refusing to play first base.

Across the way, the Tigers have a highly-paid player who has done more than accept taking on a new role.

Here in this new reality, Báez has thrived like no one saw coming.

“The second thing I’ve learned about him,” Hinch said, “is how much he cares about winning. … He doesn’t get enough credit for that. He doesn’t get enough love for that. I think because he’s not as outspoken or he’s not as open with fans and media that it gets overlooked. But I’m here to tell you that he’s all-in as a teammate, and that’s why we revere him.”

Javy Báez Comes Back For Seconds | Defector

Quote

This is our second blog this week about Javy Báez, because the Detroit center fielder (yes, center fielder!) has simply demanded it. There are players in MLB who can boast a higher WAR or more home runs, but nobody in baseball has surprised like Báez through his first 34 games. Once one of the sport's most exciting young talents with the Cubs, then an absolute washout who OPSed below .600 in back-to-back years, a humbled Báez returned from season-ending surgery last August to a growing team that had unexpectedly fashioned itself into a contender. But rather than be an awkward appendix on a roster that seemingly proved it was better off without him, Báez has pieced himself back together. Now, he's a leading hitter on—I swear this is real—Baseball Reference's World Series favorite. And Tuesday night's performance against the Red Sox was his most endearing yet in a Tigers uniform.

Has anyone else noticed that Zach McKinstry is on pace for roughly 5 fWAR this year?

I won’t lament it because I didn’t think too highly of him but that’s wild
