No, different positions have different impacts on the game. A non pass rushing LB doesn't have that great of an impact, outside the elitiest. You can be a quality player at a number of positions and impact the game quite a bit, while at others you need the be insanely good to have a real impact. The most extreme are FBs, but centers, TE, and LB can also fit here.

They expect him to be insanely good if they picked him at #8. I'm also guessing that Fangio understands the value of inside linebackers in his defense.

The Fangio aspect is definitely a big positive, if anybody can make the most of Smith it's Vic.

With WR/OL/DB/EDGE all a need right here, I get the trade down motivation but I think I'd rather they get one of the guys at the top of this round.

Totally agree re: 2nd round. I wonder if they are still trying to trade up. I read that Pace confirmed they were trying to get back up into the first.

I felt my list was stalling at around 4, so its perhaps a 50/50 proposition if there is a guy who is definitely worth grabbing vs possibly reading down for value.

Day 2, I only stay at 39 if I'm taking Harold Landry, OLB Boston College or James Daniels, C/OG, Iowa.

Both are gone or they don't like Landry (no reason why they shouldn't like Daniels who had a private workout with the Bears), I'm looking to trade down. Either 7-10 picks and picking up an extra 4th (then package 2 of three 4ths to move into the 3rd) or 12-16 picks (picking up a 3rd).

The rest of my top 10 board as it pertains to the Bears (not necessarily in order):

Lorenzo Carter, OLB, Georgia

Austin Corbett, OG, Nevada

Isaiah Oliver, CB, Colorado

Courtland Sutton, WR, SMU

Christian Kirk, WR, Texas A&M

Will Hernandez, OG, UTEP

Josh Sweat, OLB, Florida State

Connor Williams, OT, Texas

Do you know what the injury concerns are with Daniels? I saw on Twitter that he fell due to injury.

I've got 20 guys I'd be perfectly fine with at 39. So, I'm definitely hoping for a 15-20 spot trade back. Hopefully we address OG, WR, or OLB with the pick(s) today. But, I'd be perfectly fine with a DB too.

I hadn't heard that. I know about teams being weary of Landry's back, but didn't know about Daniels.

I know we need to add to the OL and he seems like he could be good but I really wanted Kirk. Can’t even hope he falls to the 3rd since we don’t have a pick there. Unless we can trade back up.

Wouldn't mind Pace getting aggressive and using one of our 4s and a pick from next year to go after a guy he likes.

Pace rolled the dice on Daniels anyway. I like it.

Yes, I'm a huge advocate on spending top half of draft picks on the o line regularly.

Is this sarcasm?
not at all

it was my number one criticism of angelo. He drafted one early then relied on patchwork free agent signing for ten years and never spent as much as a 3rd on the OL. Bad line work ruins teams and young qbs all the time.

I like this pick a lot.

So basically the anti-Jerry Angelo strategy?

I was disappointed on not taking Landry or trading back. But, Daniels is a day 1 starter and fills a true position of need too. So, after a few minutes, I quickly like the pick.

That said, I DO want us to move back into the 3rd somehow.

What would it take, without using both our 4ths?

One of them, plus our 3rd next year probably?

I'm all for doing whatever you like with this year's picks if there's a guy they really like, but I HATE giving up future year picks. That's how we got into potentially needing/wanting to trade back up into the 3rd in the first place. I'd rather we ended the cycle and started going the other way... Trading down more regularly and stocking up on more picks than we came in with
