Along those lines, my buddy was thinking they may take Harold Landry with the 8th pick.

PFF did their mock and have the Bears going Landry, with Chubb still on the board, no less. That was a "what would I do" mock and not a prediction though.

What was their line of reasoning for taking Landry over Chubb? Pace may really want a pass rusher, but if Chubb is there he's taking him.

PFF being driven by their metrics and their methods will sometimes lead to them having players ranked differently than the consensus. They're not as high on Chubb as everyone else and they have Landry a smidge ahead of him (12th vs 13th).

My top choice of guys I think will be there is Nelson, Landry, Edmunds in that order. PFF, Voch Lombardi, and Brett Kollmann convinced me on Landry. Lombardi made an interesting Von Miller comparison just based on size and combine performance.

Kollmann (the guy who called Eddie Jackson in the first round last year) mocked Landry to the Bears as well. Lombardi called him the best pass rusher in the draft. If they do draft Landry, check out the two Lombardi vids. He does a great job showing how Landry sets guys up and uses nuance to beat them. He also seems to stand up very well at the point of attack for a guy his size. Good at disengaging from the tackle, great bend and explosiveness.

For those who are into combine performance, he did way better than Von Miller in 3 cone. I’m more into the tape though. Lombardi focused a bunch on the Clemson tape where he was consistently whooping both their tackles. I haven’t really looked at Chubb to compare but I’m glad that there seems to be at least one quality edge rusher that will be available at the Bears pick. As usual, I really don’t want a trade down. Hoping they target a guy and take him where they are.

I'd be happy with someone like Nelson, as I view him as fairly safe with ability to provide immediate impact. But if there's an impact rusher available, I don't see how they can pass that up. So if pace believes that Landry has that ability, then I will be all for that pick.

I'd love Nelson. Would be very happy with Smith at 8 too. But, if Nelson is off the board, I'm ok trading back to 11,12, or 15. You're still getting one of Smith, Edmunds, Fitzpatrick, or Ward at 11 or 12. Potentially even at 15. If not, then I'm happy enough with McGlinchey, Davenport, or Landry there.

But yeah, I'm kind of getting the feeling we'll take one of those last 3 at 8.

Edit- The only guy I'd trade up for is Chubb.

I hope we do get a 3rd somehow and Pace actually said he wants to as well. But, in the end, I think they'll move back 15-20 spots in the 2nd, if they do it.

Check out Kollmann’s video on Smith. He shows a bunch of videos of teams running right at Smith and the lineman blowing him up and pushing him like 10 yards out of the play. His contention is that Smith would make a great weak side linebacker in the Briggs mold but couldn’t really play inside linebacker. And watching that video I didn’t come away thinking he’d be a great edge rusher either. I could totally be because a lot of people like him but I don’t like his fit with the Bears.

Then as I noted earlier in the thread I think edge is a gaping hole and that the secondary is one of the strengths of the team, so I’m hoping the pick isn’t there. Maybe Davenport is good and they could get him lower. I’d be ok with McGlinchey but would rather an edge guy.

So although there are a lot of guys who the consensus all puts in the same bucket I’d personally just rather get the one they want. Just my opinion but the two gaping holes are edge and interior line so figure just get a guy there. But we’ll see, I tend to be an uber-apologist who finds a way to view anything my teams do as good if I like the management team.

Apparently Josh Allen has joined the line of public figures with a VERY regrettable twitter history... We'll see how it effects his stock tonight, I suppose. But that might be one less QB picked before 8, which is a bummer.

He canceled his appearance on Golic & Wingo this morning

This is dumb. "Cleveland has told no one who they're taking, but since some random other GM's made up a rumor that they'r taking Mayfield, I'll put it on Twitter."

There's a lot more smoke than other gms making up a rumor.

Smoke based on what, though? All reports are that Dorsey hasn’t told anyone who he’s picking, sonwhere does the speculations start?

Good to hear others are high on Landry, not just PFF. A lot of the consensus online seems to be Chibb as the head above heels leader. If there is a top 10ish edge guy there, that's hard to pass up.

Kolloman is also very high on Isaiah Oliver (calling him the best CB in the draft), and he has been linked to Bears. He's kinda who I had in mind when I say the Bears could shock on a guy that everyone will say could go lower. There have been some Ward-Bears rumors too though, so who knows.

I don’t doubt Hugh Jackson has made it known who he wants.

I have a lot of doubts that Dorsey gives a horsefeathers who Jackson wants

I didn't say anything about who Hue Jackson wants.

Shouldn't the Browns take Barkley #1 and then take whatever QB is left at #4?

Is there really anything that meaningfully separates these top 4 QBs? None of these guys is Peyton Manning.

My preferences (in order):

Trade up for Chubb if he falls 5-7.

Draft Nelson

Draft Fitzpatrick

Look to trade with Buffalo or anyone looking to get a QB and trade down.

If I was them I think I’d do Chubb/Barkley at 1, then trade out of 4 to a QB needy team (Broncos, Bills, Cardinals, etc).

The prevailing sentiment is that the Browns have passed on SO many quarterbacks that have turned into franchise guys that they HAVE to take a QB number one. To pass on one (again) is more than the city can take

This team has way too many holes to merit sacrificing picks/players in a trade up, in my opinion.

I think Chubb could be a beast, but I prefer quantity over quality at this point for the Bears.

If they end up with Nelson, fine, whatever but I'd rather get an OL later and get someone great at a more important position
