One of the more aggressive teams. Top half, even. A deal might eventually happen, but my sources say, also maybe it won't. Please clap.

Edit: I just realized someone I follow RT'ed this and it's 16 hours old.

When he ends up signing with the Cubs for like 4/90, Brewers fans are going to claim Stearns had no interest but instead did a masterful job of forcing Theo to overpay.

i'm not really worried about this team's ability to win the division, and i'm as aware as anybody that the playoffs are a crapshoot, but the main reason i want this to happen is so that teams have to face jon lester in game 4.

Here's an outside the box idea.... If Darvish/Dodgers really want to get back together, tell the Dodgers we'll take Kemp and Ryu all their salary but we need Walker Buehler to do that, throw in a prospect or something going back if needed. They are essentially trading Ryu/Kemp/Buehler for Darvish. Then we can go a few routes, go sign a remaining FA SP (even just a Hellickson until Buehler is ready), hold and develop Buehler and let Monty/Ryu start the year as the 5 until he's ready or turn around and trade Buehler, Happ and prospects for Archer.

What do they do with Kemp?

Let him pass out orange wedges in the dugout between innings. Heck, at $21.5M, if he's trustworthy with the knife, maybe even let him cut the oranges up. Anything to keep him busy and off the field.

Or maybe we can turn around and trade him for Albert Pujols who is even more expensive, and even worse.

Cut him or try and get someone to take him and pay a few million each year of the deal

It seems like they do this all the time in the NBA but it's harder to pull off in baseball since the rosters are so much bigger.

I know the discussion yesterday was some not caring about this info or guy but I'll post it anyway since he clearly has a source and there's probably at least some half truths to it.....

I was told, Darvish's camp was looking for final offers. Brewer's gave theirs and then Cubs came in and exceeded Brewer's offer. I/we assumed that Cubs would get Darvish as their were no other offers coming in....at all. This went on for a few days. Darvish's camp just sat tight and is still sitting.

2 days ago Brewer's came back and matched Cubs. Brewer's don't know yet if Cubs or even other teams have matched. Waiting on Darvish's side now. And the thought from Baseball execs is that if Darvish keeps these teams waiting to much longer that they will A) sign other pitchers decreasing the need for Darvish. B) Teams will withdraw their offers as teams don't want to be jerked around. And because of the latter statement. A Decision is "expected" by Monday. As all teams on Darvish are getting impatient and even a little perturbed.

And my source is not aware of where the bidding/numbers/years is at. But..........it's going to be extremely pricey!!!

In what sense? They just did it with Gonzalez and the Braves and the Braves cut him.

What does it mean that the Brewers don't know if the Cubs or other teams have matched, considering the Brewers only matched the Cubs? What do the Cubs have to match in this case?

Anyway, this guy seems pretty legit. I guess the Brewers are actually in on Darvish, but they are going to have a team-record payroll in order to fit him in.

Meh, with talk to text these days its hard to tell if it was an error on his part or if it was a tech typo that he didnt proofread. Im sure he knows the correct way to spell Brewers...

I think its noteworthy that the teams involved are teams the Cubs would rather not see improve (Doyers and VB's). Meaning, if Boras pulled this garbage and other teams involved were Angels and Yankees, Theo withdraws the offer a week ago. If the angels get him at a lower price, fine! That sets the market lower for remaining available starters. But if the Brewers get him at a lower price, or the Dodgers, that gives them better value as they compete head to head with the Cubs (the brewers in the division would then become a legitimate threat having added 3 impact players to an unspectacular but solid core, the Dodgers would widen their projected advantage in the playoffs.

This has created quite the stalemate. Nobody is budging up, and Boras knows nobody is backing off.

Boras is not Darvish's agent, but yeah, same situation.

I get the sense that Darvish doesn't want to play for the Cubs because of lifestyle issues like weather and distance. For a strictly baseball purpose, who wouldn't want to pitch for these Cubs!? In that light, NO WAY does he go to the Brewers. I suspect when it is all said and done he ends up with the Rangers somehow.

Dodgers, it’s his preferred destination. They won’t meet some minimum threashold he has.

I trust Theo.

Yup. Quick google of “Yu Darvish agent” pulled up an article on Boras running his mouth about “non-competitive cancer.” I should have dug deeper before posting.

On a related note, if I ever (God forbid) have cancer, I hope it is non-competitive cancer.

Heaven forbid, I wouldn't want to anybody to think I didn't. I now know how our grandparents felt about FDR.

I just mean I trust Theo to do whats in the best interest of the Club. It sounds like Theo gauged the market for Darvish pretty well so if they lose him to another team, it's cool.

Agreed.
