I don't know anything about his salary (edit: I did know he was on a team-friendly deal. It would have been more accurate to say I have no idea how his salary would affect our LT situation) or injuries, he's just a guy I've really wanted since I found out he existed last year.

hes very handsome it could cause a clubhouse rift when he takes the chicks away from addison

I’m not a big fan. He’s only stayed healthy once and is expensive in LT regards. If the defensive metrics don’t go crazy I wouldn’t be surprised if Almora/Happ platoon out WARs him this year.

His shoulder is probably shot but this was a guy I really wanted the Cubs to take a chance on this offseason in the hopes he could turn into a meaningful reliever. Pretty exciting, even though I feel like West Side Rooter/Little Lord Fontenot for wanting to sign a flyer.

that 2011 first round is crazy. Every pitcher is either a disappointment, never panned out, a reliever or literally dead.

Meanwhile you have like george spring going 11, or Lindor going 8th.

He has stayed healthy enough to post bWARs of 7.3, 5.5, and 5.1 the last three years. If he actually can stay healthy for a full season he is a 7 win player. That is a no-brainer for a guy locked up through 2023, and ~ $10 M per is not expensive in LT regards.

Happ and Almora would have to take huge steps forward to out value Kiermaier.

Horsefeathers pitchers forever

And that’s why you don’t draft pitcher high in the first round

fWAR isn’t as high on him, and he’s a career .260/.310/.430 hitter. He doesn’t walk at a crazy rate and Ks about mid 20%, he doesn’t really hit for power, he needs to play the horsefeathers out of defense to carry a lot of his value. His OPS vs LHP is also in the mid .600s and WRC+ in the 80s (so he’s a platoon guy offensively) and against RHP where he’s “good” he’s only at .780 and 116 WRC+. I feel pretty confident Happ/Almora out perform that offensively this year when used to platoon advantages. For the likely acquisition cost and dependence on defense for value and doing nothing else well I don’t really care for him.

Also even at only ~$10 million that pushes us awfully close to the LT this year and at the least would/could affect any in season additions. That alone isn’t worth it for me.

It’s amazing how this off-season continues to drag on with unsigned players. Using the powers granted to me by me, I’ve decided to apportion the remaining free agents in the way that makes the most sense so we can get on with the baseball season.

Luccroy to Nats.

Walker to D-Backs.

Moustakas to Yankees.

Arrieta to Twins.

Cobb to Brewers.

Lynn to Mariners.

Holland to Angels.

Was that so hard?

How about you give them all to the Cubs at minimum salary? I'm sure we could use the depth.

Sweet. You made the Yankees go over the luxury tax threshold.

Lincecum got a major league deal with the Rangers and they intend for him to be their closer, apparently

That Rangers starting rotation is going to be really really bad.

nah. lynn is way too ugly for this team. only beautiful men (i'm turning a blind eye on duensing) need apply

Personally I'm hoping he finds his groove again. He was a hell of a pitcher and one of the most fun to watch.

Prime Lincecum was amazing, definitely rooting for him.

I do find it quite shocking they plan on making him the closer. He didn’t even pitch last season and was god awful the last anyone saw of him.

For some weird reason, I actually think Lincecum can do really well as a relief pitcher. His control and command was never great, and he probably isn't the best pitcher to bring in a jam with runners on. I don't know if pitching in Texas is the best place for him to make a comeback either.

I do think he's capable of striking out a lot of hitters if he has that good separation between his nasty changeup and fastball. If the velocity on his fastball is low-90's he is definitely capable of being a good RP.

Hultzen would have been super exciting a few years ago. Now the Cubs have the #2 and #9 players from the 2011 draft.

Baez has performed better so far.

Is this the place to put the Danny Hultzen signing?

Place holder until he needs to go in the #NotAllPitchers thread

He's so OG #NotAllPitchers the thread didn't even exist when he was #NotAllPitchering
