I know he has the reputation of being a prodigious power hitter, but he's 37 and had a .674 OPS last year and was worth negative WAR in both versions of it. If I recall he was trying to get a modest to high contract in the 3-4 year $50-$75 mil range. That horsefeathers ain't happening. Feel bad for him. He didn't really put it together until he was reaching 30 and he signed a contract extension before FA which totally screwed him out of more money. I think he would've hit FA at 32 or 33 when he was still hitting tons of homers. Probably would've gotten a huge pay day.

Yeah, I guess it's just surprising because usually these guys are in a long term contract when they fall off the cliff, so they linger.
