Stroman is saying some cryptic things on twitter. He’s going to cost a ton though, since it seems like the Jays think they can contend for a WC and aren’t in a rush to move him. He’s controlled for, 4 years.

Stroman is only under team control for 3 more seasons (18, 19 and 20') and this is the second time he's going to arbitration. He should get a nice bump in salary. I'd like the Cubs to trade for him next offseason, but who stays and who goes? We could trade Chatwood + prospects in some 3-team scenario and get Stroman in return?

The Cardinals signing Bud “too many foreign players in MLB” Norris right after the Cubs signing Darvish is just to easy to even make jokes about.

No it’s not. Please make many jokes and let’s have general jocularity about the event.

meh - it would work better if they didn't have Kolten Wong and Tommy Pham as starters in their lineup.

Or Carlos Martinez, who I love.

Wong was born in Hawaii and Pham was born in Las Vagas.

I know, but Bruno doesn’t. Martinez is from the DR.

Shae Simmons might be another Theo steal if he can stay healthy. My guess is Perez gets released shortly.

96, 97, 98, all with sinking action, backed up by a knuckle curve and a slider that miss bats with ease and a split-change that shaves 10 mph off his heater. Simmons is a big moment pitcher packed into a wrestler's frame:

"I don't have much behind the ball so I try to create it through mechanics."

Others are saying it's a minor league deal that could pay him $750000 if he makes the majors.

here's what is on MLB Trade Rumors:

The Cubs have signed righty Shae Simmons to a split contract, USA Today’s Bob Nightengale reports (Twitter links). The deal will pay Simmons $750K if he cracks Chicago’s Major League roster, and $120K if he remains in the minors.

I know we are making fun of it, especially if he’s in their plans to be in the rotation out of ST, but I wouldn’t mind a similar move for a remaining FA SP like Hellickson, Feldman, Tillman, etc or even turning Eddie Butler’s contract in to something similar to what Miley got to keep him since he doesn’t have options/won’t make the team out of ST.

I kind of doubt we can get a guy like that. There's far better opportunities out there for those types to actually make a team, than what we've got to offer. I'd love to get one, just doubt its plausible.

As for Butler, my guess is we give him a serious look out of the pen. He's got stuff. Opening it up for one inning may turn him into something worthwhile. Wouldn't shock me to see him make the pen honestly, if we keep 8 guys.(counting Monty)

That makes sense and is understandable and probably is wishfulish thinking. But if Butler makes the pen out of ST along with Monty we kinda screw ourselves with depth since neither would be stretched out to start if someone goes down. At the very least I’d like to figure out a way to keep Butler (like I said maybe just give him something like this Miley deal if possible) or see what else we could add.

The Rangers and Oh "hit a snag" in their negotiations and the signing isn't done and Daniel's said nothing is imminent to be announced on any deals. FWIW

Cashner gets 2/16 from the O's

lol - he's going to suck.

How do you have a K/9 of 4 when you throw mid 90s and have decent secondary stuff? That seems impossible for a number of reasons, especially with the current strikeout heavy environment.

I mean Uehara had a K/9 of 10 throwing 78 MPH fastballs last year.

There’s “momentum” toward a deal that would bring infielder Eduardo Nunez back to the Red Sox, according to MLB.com’s Ian Browne (via Twitter). Indeed, the organization “could be close” to striking a deal with the versatile veteran.

5:29pm: The sides have a deal in place pending a physical, per Robert Murray of Fan Rag (via Twitter). If completed, it’ll be a one-year pact with an option.
