the giants are now 40 games back of first place LAD. Out of curiosity, anyone know the record of "most games behind at end of season" off hand? (I could probably google this but I'm lonely and want to talk w/ someone online. thx in advance)

In 1906 the Boston Beaneaters finished 66.5 games behind the Chicago Cubs.

that's cool. glad i asked. it'll be useful for the next baseball argument i get into with my one friend that is truly into MLB who lives four hours away.

 

side note: NC needs an MLB team bad. Little league/HS baseball/ECU baseball/etc is HUGE. it's a baseball loving town/state but all we have are some bandwagon idiot braves fans. Granted, they will still be idiot baseball fans if Raleigh or somewhere got a team and obsessed with Wins for P and batting average and such, but I think it would really, really thrive.

 

plus I could argue with many more people who don't know dick about baseball. it would basically correlate that i was the TT or Duke of baseball and they'll be the weis21. i would just throw out some type of WAR stat or wOBA (hell even just OPS) every now and then and they'd be like, "hmm. welp i'm in over my head here!"

isn't the knights park built with potential expansion for MLB in mind? move the rays there.

That is not where the Knights play anymore, mostly because it's 30 minutes outside Charlotte.

Whoops. I pulled up the wrong thing and my friend from NC must have been mixed up when he told me I guess.

 

BB&T, the actual park they play in, is awesome though.

it is indeed. the backdrop is as good as it gets. I’m really upset I didn’t make it to a game this year

Nats just tied it, but it's clearly the best team they've had since the 2011 team.

 

I think they managed to catch both LA and D.C. on a downstroke but still, I doubt they'll fade.
