Watching Coghlan go out to pretend he was actually going to bat was pretty funny. Joe knew Bochy would switch, you even saw Contreras in the dugout ready to go.

well yeah, that is pinch hitting 101.

Coghlan had to go out to be announced as pinch hitter to force the change. That is also why Bochy hesitated for a second to make sure Cogs was officially announced and thus unable to come back in later.

Yeah but still hilarious. Bochy was playing bullpen roulette in the 9th.

I kind of see what he was doing, going through the same crew that shut us down for like 8 innings the night before, the only difference being using 52 year old LOOGY Javier Lopez.

This being said, with a 3 run lead vs. a team that had shown minimal signs of life the previous 15-16 innings, I can imagine why those guys weren't mentally prepared.

I can't get over how awesome this is. How many times in our lives have we watched a Cubs game where the Cubs trailed by multiple runs late and thought 'well maybe we can do this, but everything has to go perfect'. On some occasions the Cubs have succeeded, but think about how many times we got the leadoff guy on, the next batter is up 3-1 in the count and you are starting to believe, only to see liner right to fielder/groundball that is not quite close enough to getting through/chase ball 4/foul popup that almost gets out of play but doesn't. So many rallies we've seen die after getting our hopes up, we even use the term 'fake rally' in here quite often.

But you keep hoping and keep believing that it's possible because one time something like this happens and Bryants well hit grounder finds the perfect spot just past the SS, Rizzo lays off pitches he was chasing earlier in the series, Zo gets a hold of one down the RF line, Willy finds a hole up the middle, Heyward hits a terrible bunt that should have been a rally killing double play but instead ends up accomplishing what he was hoping for with the bunt, then Javy...0-2 count. You've seen this AB enough from Javy to know how it ends, but he's made his adjustments and instead of whiffing he puts the ball into play to score the winning run.

Sorry for the verbal diarrhea, I'm just trying to put into words how amazing last night was.

The awful Heyward bunt was awesome because it ended up ending up even better than had he laid down a "good" bunt.

This being said, I'm still looking back at game one, and how easily we could have just saved our own ass to tie the series at 2.

Fox is really in a conundrum with who they want to face the Cubs

Big LA market vs. all the horsefeathers they can talk about with Cubs vs. Dusty and 2003

I don't think it's a conundrum at all. Surely Fox would prefer LA.

Even after the leadoff single and a 3-1 count, you still have to think "man, 3 runs is a lot to get before you record 3 outs". It's still not the most likely outcome of 2 men on to start an inning.

I mostly lurk, but I wanted to share this. Riz giving us a glove slam we can all smile about.

I love that Rizzo and Bryant go straight for each other while the rest of the team piles onto the mound. Typical Bryzzo. And then Zobrist shows up and they're like "yeah sure Ben, we'll acknowledge your existence."

I listened to the Giants' radio feed of the ninth hoping for some misery porn, but it was Jon Miller, and he is too much of a pro for that. I was kind of disappointed.
