The last one was Game 5 of the 1986 ALCS between the Red Sox and Angels. Not sure about the other 2.

The other 3 were within 5 days of each other in the 1986 playoffs.

Yep, both by the Mets. One in the NLCS and the other was the Buckner game.

Damn that 1986 playoffs must have been insane to follow as a fan.

It was. I was 13 years old and I have memories of listening to the NLCS on my headphones in the car on the way to dinner. My parents got mad at me when I didn't want to leave the house before the game was over. I was a much bigger sports fanatic as a kid. Now I pretty much only pay attention to my teams.

Also, after ruminating on last night's events, I want to thank Hunter Strickland/Posey for going fastball on 0-2 to Baez, which was incredibly stupid.

In my delirium last night, I didn't even realize the count on Baez's hit. It wasn't till I was showing the recording of the 9th to my son this morning that I realized it....what a terrible pitch.

I was fully expecting it to be in the dirt or at eye level.

I had the same feeling about the pitch Lackey made to Moore on 0-2

I told the friend I was with that the next couple pitches should either be high fastballs out of the zone or some offspeed in the dirt. It was a better pitch than I thought but still not a good idea to throw Javy a FB that's not at his eyes.

Not an elimination game but the Angels also came from 3-0 down in the ninth to win Game 4.

Does anyone want to guess what the all-time record is for a team trailing by 3 heading into the 9th of a postseason game?

3-864 ......well 4-864 now

What are the others?

They showed them last night but I can't remember. OR maybe they showed it on MLB network.

I actually like Smoltz as an analyst, but yeah he needs to stop doing that. Even Dan flinched a bit when he said "Pedro" but let it go. His insight is pretty spot on most of the time however.

If anyone wants to watch the game again or particularly the 9th inning:

yeah to be fair he had nothing but good things to say about him. but how the horsefeathers do you still make that mistake the day after the game? i guess my barometer is low, too, amongst the costa/buck types i compare him to.

I'll be at Wrigley for games 1 & 2 with my 8 year old. He has been to many games, but nothing quite like this. He gets some mild social anxiety in crowds. He's fine during the game, but he gets himself worked up when leaving.

Anybody have any tips for getting out of there after the game? I'm thinking of just chilling in the seats and letting people file out. I realize this will cause a backup in getting a cab/train/uber. We are staying downtown. I think I might just wait it out for a while and walk a few blocks to a restaurant or something and get a cab/uber.

Just curious if anyone had any better ideas. Apologies for the random question!

i'm not sure, but in rewatching the 9th inning just now, i think they played kashmir at the end of the top of the 9th, which i believe they've been playing at wrigley when chapman comes in

This is minor but if you are taking the train at Addison, use the platform entrance in the alleyway behind Sports Corner Bar instead of the front entrance off the street. Seems like 90% of the people don't realize there's a second entrance to the platform in the back and all crowd in front trying to get through and are packed like sardines off the street.

good call. i've been to like 2-3 games since we got him with varying levels of sobriety but this is right.

also i'm not really a fan of rage against the machine so i am not all that familiar with their songs

There are some real doozy of posts from page 32 when I stopped posting (bc I didn't want to be on record as saying stupid horsefeathers) to page 42 but I have mad appreciation for about a half dozen posters who somehow managed to hold hope and remain somewhat logical. Enjoyable read.

I used to love Rage growing up. They're pretty silly now.

With that said, I adore LZ... and the plagiarism charges are silly to me. Inspiration maybe, but literally different notes.

Wake Up is a pretty sweet song to enter to, too.

Bochy really botched that 9th inning. He over thought everything. Chose Bitch face Law to start the inning and takes him out after a seeing eye (though hard hit) single. Closer faces 1 batter. Chose struggling LHP vs Contreras instead of RHP/closer vs Coghlan. Clearly didn't trust anyone in the pen, and got lucky that Moore was able to give him 8.
