  1. If the Cubs were doomed to lose Game 7 in 2016 with Michael Martinez at the plate, I envision it unfolding it exactly like that play just did.
  2. Aside from all the obvious moments, there are two postseason moments that will forever be burned into my brain. The first was from the 2015 Wild Card game when Jake got Starling Marte to ground into an inning-ending double play in the sixth inning. Russell blew what could have been a double play in the AB before and the crowd was really getting ramped up. It was my moment of dread. I'm usually pretty level-headed during games, but I let out an involuntary scream of relief when Jake got out of it. Guarantee my neighbors heard it. The other is watching Bryant score from first on RIzzo's double in Game 7. As far as using booze to calm nerves during the game -- I was drinking pretty hard during Game 1 of the 2016 NLCS and barely remember Montero's grand slam. I vowed at that point to never have more than one or two during a playoff game. I'd never forgive myself for blacking out and missing a historic moment.
  3. Lurker hot take: I've visited this board multiple times daily for 12 years and I can't stand the GIFs. Finally had to just turn them off.
  4. I'm stunned and jealous so many of you have tickets to the game. Even if I were to go by myself, my wife would laugh in my face if I wanted to spend in excess of $2K for a standing room ticket, let alone multiple tickets. I have one legit connection to season tickets. My old boss has two bleacher seats. But he's selling them on Stubhub with a smile on his face. Fighting the crowds in Wrigleyville just seems too much for me. The fear of not being able to find a place to semi-comfortably watch the game is real. Am I a complete monster for just wanting to watch the games with my dad in his living room?
  5. I spend more time in here than with my actual my friends. Maybe even my wife.
  6. [tweet] [/tweet] I mostly lurk, but I wanted to share this. Riz giving us a glove slam we can all smile about.
  7. The White Sox weren't even a blip on my childhood radar until I went to college and met three of the nastiest Cub-hating White Sox fans ever. They were nice guys and we're still friends to this day, but they opened my eyes to this weird one-sided "fan rivalry". Of course, two of the three guys ended up being my roommates when the White Sox won the World Series. I did not enjoy that month.
  8. And the Bears are in town the next day. Nice little doubleheader if you're willing to open up the wallet.
  9. Not sure if there's any recent discussion on spring training, so bumping this to see if anyone has had any more recent experiences/tips/advice with the new ballpark? My wife and I have never been to spring training and are planning to be in Arizona March 30-April 4 for one game in Surprise, one game at Cubs Park and one of the games at Chase Field.
  10. Are there fans of other teams that are also stuck in this dilemma? Where they don't get the local broadcast but are still blacked out of Extra Innings and MLB.TV? Have we just been lucky because games have been on WGN my whole life?
  11. This is my doomsday scenario. I just can't believe everyone in that blue "blackout area" won't get half the games on TV.
  12. I'm from Peoria, and for years, we obviously couldn't get WCIU broadcasts. Even when a game on WCIU was also broadcast on ESPN, we were blacked out of the national broadcast because we were in the "Cubs market". The Peoria TV market was eventually able to pick up the WCIU games on the MyNetworkTV affiliate (WAOE) for the last few years. I don't really get how the 2015 TV situation will shake out beyond CSN, but I'm concerned about "being in the market but not really in the market" again. If you're in a team's market, you're also blacked out of those broadcasts on MLB.TV, correct?
  13. Since 140 characters isn't enough and 95% of my 203 Twitter followers don't care, I'm going to have to rant here. Can't think of a better place. I can't handle Jim Miller on the CSN postgame. Jim freaking Miller, the owner of zero playoff wins, a 75.2 career passer rating and a 4-game steroids suspension, throwing stones at Jay. I get the whole thing with Jay -- untimely turnovers, inconsistencies, etc. But after a 20-year run of complete suck at quarterback -- which includes Jim freaking Miller! -- Jay has to be the best option. Up until 2009, every time the Bears have played the Packers, the broadcast would trot out this hilarious graphic detailing all of the quarterbacks (Chad Hutchinson, harfharfharf!) the Bears have used during the Brett Favre/Aaron Rodgers era. Now we get a guy in that (usually) gives the Bears their best chance, and Jim freaking Miller wants to pile on Jay tonight, of all nights. After a historically bad two-game stretch by the defense, Jim Miller spends the better part of the postgame ranting about Jay. 42 points allowed in the first half from the defense. [expletive] you Jim Miller, you [expletive] [expletive]. I know I never post here and this is a bizarre rant, but I'm so blind with rage I can't sleep. Carry on, NSBB.
  14. I'm going to guess Evergreen Park East Peoria. My first introduction to this site was when I was interning for the Peoria Chiefs and my boss was doing some interviews here. I followed along here pretty closely that summer because I knew the Chiefs inside and out and wanted to see what others thought. My NSBB visits died off after the season until the Juan Pierre trade happened, and I've pretty much been here daily since then. Of course, Pierre led off the season with a triple (I think?) and I was convinced it was the greatest trade ever. Perhaps not.
  15. Hometown-related. I'm not much for clever usernames.
  16. Not a frequent poster, but just wanted to say I've arranged for my first day off from both of my jobs in the same day in nearly six weeks. I've got a good feeling. Cubs in three.
  17. Anybody know if the ESPN broadcast be blacked out?
  18. My team is offensively challenged to say the least. I have no third baseman on my roster other than Aubrey Huff (who I picked up after Hafner's awful start and an injury to Konerko). If I traded Wright, I could potentially pick up Joe Crede, Edwin Encarnacion, Ryan Zimmerman, or Melvin Mora, all of which are free agents in this league. My regular outfielders are Aaron Rowand, JD Drew, and Chris Young. So clearly, I need some offense in a bad way. I just don't want to get burned if Hamilton ends up missing significant time. I'm leaning toward pulling the trigger.
  19. Not a frequent poster, but a frequent reader. I am being offered Josh Hamilton for David Wright in a basic default rules Yahoo! rotisserie league. Obviously, Hamilton's numbers are better almost all the way around save stolen bases (Hamilton 2, Wright 8). But with Hamilton's recent knee issue, I'm a little nervous to pull the trigger. Simple question: am I a complete idiot to not take Hamilton in this trade?
  20. I know I'm new here, but I can't help to crack up at the photos in this thread. Pie and Fuld both blowing a play followed by immediate doom? It really is funny. Thank goodness it's spring training.
