I just looked through on Gameday, and Clayton Kershaw only touched 90 MPH once during his start tonight. And that pitch was exactly 90.0. He'll get some velo back as he gets further away from his DL stint, but he's probably more All-Star than Cy Young going forward.

He threw 1142 4-seamers last year and not a single one was less than 90 mph.

No way he's opting out of 3/$98M at the end of the year, right? I mean, I suppose if he misses a month or less, comes back by July 1 and goes vintage Kershaw the rest of the way he probably opts out. But for him to opt out, he'd have to be pretty confident he's getting way more than $98M guaranteed. I suppose there's always some team crazy enough to offer him 5/$130M or 6/$150.

EDIT: Looked at it wrong. He’s only got two years left for $65M. So more likely to opt out since he’d only need to be confident of getting around $100M.

Like I’ve said before, his back is fucked which may have led to these arm injuries and now the back thing came back. He absolutely should be opting in at this point.

Out until 2020? That seems like a really pessimistic timeline.

I'm guessing 2020 relevancy to the ML team as opposed to minor leagues, where he'll presumably rehab at the end of '19.

Reyes is still young and the medical advancements are improved from 15 years ago but this is certainly looking like the Cardinals version of Mark Prior.

Carlos Martinez also was throwing softer on purpose in his start last night because he feared he might re-injure himself and he didn't tell anyone but the Cardinals say they aren't worried.....

This whole thing is weird.

It is. Like what, the guy was scared he’d get hurt if he threw like he has his entire career so he changed things but Mike and the fellas totally aren’t worried.

Stephen Strasburg was forced to leave Friday's start against the Giants after two innings due to an apparent injury.

Strasburg looked very uncomfortable on the mound in the second inning and seemed to have difficulty getting loose. He met with trainers after working out of a jam in the second inning, and the decision was made to pull him from his start. He'll presumably head for further evaulation, after which the club should provide an update on his status. Strasburg surrendered three runs on five hits while striking out a pair before departing.

Syndergaard had a set back and isn’t starting Sunday now and Familia also went to the DL with a shoulder injury. Mets wouldn’t let the other pitcher injuries steal their shine today.

Masahiro Tanaka left the Yankees-Mets game after apparently hurting himself running the bases.

It's Chien-Ming Wang all over again! Ban the pitcher from hitting!

Side note: This made me google Chien-Ming Wang and holy crap, he had a 3.1 K/9 ratio when he was the runner-up for the Cy Young in 2006. 218 IP, 76K's. I know he was a groundball pitcher, but cripes.

http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/23735815/the-los-angeles-angels-placed-shohei-ohtani-disabled-list-sprained-ucl

Shohei Ohtani will be placed on the Los Angeles Angels' disabled list with a sprained elbow ligament and will miss at least three weeks before the club re-evaluates him.

The Angels said Ohtani's ulnar collateral ligament has a Grade 2 sprain, which typically indicates some degree of damage but not a complete tear. Ohtani's injury doesn't always require surgery, while Grade 3 sprains are usually repaired by Tommy John surgery.

Damn, today sucks. Not good news...

He's so fun to watch and I hope Ohtani will be fine after some rest, but he might need TJS at some point down the road.
