Love the Cubs making "double digit lead in June" roster moves. Idk if these are moved made if the team was normal record wise.

this made my day.

however, can someone explain to why Concepcion is a better option than Felix Pena right now?

I mentioned elsewhere that Concepcion wasn't really call up worthy(largely because of the walks), but looking closer it seems he's a better fit for the Richard role that is primarily 2nd LOOGY/mop up guy. At AA & AAA LH hitters are 5 for 43 with 19 K and 4 BB, a .311 OPS. You could maybe infer that the high walk rate against RH hitters is from nibbling and avoiding getting burnt, while he attacks LH hitters that he knows he can get out.

Don't really understand Warren going to the rotation. Who's spot would he be taking?

Nobody's

It's been noted several times, they would go to a 6 man rotation before and probably after the ASB. What happens a month from now is another question

Warren with 2 starts in Iowa means he's back in 2 weeks which puts us in the middle of our current 24 games in 24 days stretch. They might be trying to get him to to take 1-2 starts right before the break.

Probably not, but is Hendricks untouchable? The Cubs have several untouchables, but I doubt KH is one of them. That said, I doubt he'd be traded, but you never know what his value would be to another team.

There is nothing any team is going to offer us that's better than Hendricks for crazy cheap.

Was Concepcion's initial signing tied to another player's signing or do I have that confused?

I think he was signed right when Soler was and maybe they had the same agent/handler and (I think) it was a joke that we only signed Concepcion because he was Soler's buddy/had the same agent as him. But then he was so awful when he came over it wasn't so clear if it was a joke.

If memory serves, didn't Concepcion get mono or something? Or was that Hayden Simpson?

It was both. He got it immediately and lost velo and command once he came back. I wrote him off as soon as we took him off the 40 man. Never thought he'd make it up.

Haha, I took the bait if it was a joke. Remember reading it a couple times here.

And there's also the fact that we don't have a ton of SP depth in the event of an injury. As of now, if we needed to dip into AAA for an option, we'd be kind of screwed.

Maybe Hendricks is on some teams radar as a possible piece to a trade down the road, and the Cubs are stretching out Warren "just in case".

No

Hendricks is boring and yeah, the top 30 talk gets annoying, but this team can't afford to give up young, healthy, cheap starting pitching with some major turnover coming for 2018. He and Lester are the only ones under contract after 2017.

----

I found Concepcion boring despite the results.

If need be, we have the resources to acquire more starting pitching if need be. But I do agree that there's no reason to be actively shopping Hendricks. But if we're taking a part of a package for someone like Teharen or Fernandez (who I am very much aware that they are very different commodities,) then we could afford trade him.

Trading away one of the two starting pitchers who is under team control past 2018, especially considering the state of the starting pitching situation in the minors, seems very unwise. Presumably, you're imagining giving up much more than Hendricks in a deal for either of those two pitchers, so you end up surrendering valuable assets without gaining anything in terms of long-term control. Hendricks may not be untouchable on the same level that other players in the organization are, but they should really avoid dealing him.
