The Cubs are in early season slump mode. NSBB is in August 2004 meltdown mode.

But yeah, not clobbering the Brewers with replacement level at best pitchers in 2/3 games, no Braun in 2/3, and no Braun or Lucroy in this one shouldn't happen. Maybe Garet Cole caused some deep emotional bruising with his hateful not the best team in baseball comment. Jerk.

If they played this series 500 times, the Cubs probably sweep them 350 of those times. So yeah it shouldn't happen, it just does all the freaking time. I'm sure the 2001 Mariners lost a series to a horsefeathers team, I'm sure the 98 Yankees did as well.

I think the issue is, and this could absolutely just be a bias on my part, that we only see Ski and RondonFan when things aren't going well. If you had Sofa and Derwood and whoever else that post all the time and overreact to all the good parts posting the pessimistic, panicky things, I'd still think they were wrong, but whatever, people get overinvested. But when it only shows up when we're losing...then it gets tired.

Meh at any given time just about any of us has said something rather meatbally. No problem with calling someone out for it, but the level of hostility goes a little too far some times.

I agree with you there - that's why I've been posting more often when the Cubs do something good. But my initial behavior of only being doom and gloomy means that it will take a while to change this perception.

Why don't you just yell into a pillow if you are that unable to restrain yourself from emotional outbursts during sports games?

I'm level-headed outside of the games, and I've been trying to pay more attention to positive outcomes this season. A lot of people pretend that emotional indulgence isn't allowed in sports - a field of entertainment designed for emotional indulgence. Sometimes I say really petty, meatbally things (I've been really tempted to post something along the lines of 'You can't convince me that the offense is giving it their best effort lately,') which I agree is very stupid and isn't as acceptable as expressing mild disdain that a good team is struggling against mediocre pitching.

Yes, I know [expletive] happens. Just like when you stub your toe or get stuck in bad traffic. You're allowed to get irritated during these instances. So long as you don't allow these moments of annoyance to dictate your overall mood, nothing wrong is going on.

there's nothing wrong with saying expletives to yourself because you aren't happy with the way things are going at any given point. But given how amazing the Cubs have been this year, it just looks really dumb to get up in arms over a couple less than inspiring games and choose to express that emotion out into the rest of the world

You are insufferable. You've always been insufferable. You used to be insufferable, but you still are, too. Just because you now preface things by saying, "I know it's baseball and stuff happens..." before mentioneding how annoyed you are by a stupid, insignificant thing doesn't mean that you aren't still insufferable. You are.

I spent the better part of a decade being a meatbally idiot and got called out on it constantly. I think I just developed some perspective and realized that absolutely no one wanted to read my posts when I acted like a nitwit in the game threads. Why contribute something on one wants to read? It comes down to the fact that you are emotional about a sports game and you have to let your frustrations out somehow. So do you really want to be known as the dude who can't keep their emotions in check while watching an early season baseball game rooting for a team that has the best record in baseball?

Heyward has been pulling off outside pitches really bad in this series. I wonder what would happen if he got Rizzo-close to the plate?

I'm obviously just guessing, but it seems like a guy that feels like he needs a faceguard built onto his helmet may not be all that comfortable putting himself in the line of fire like that.

Man you can totally see the Cubs not changing their approach (rightly so) trying to work the count and make good things happen, but their damn pitchers seem to consistently be painting the outside corners of the strike zone and are getting called strikes, forcing the hitters to get more aggressive and chase. Bryants AB was exactly that...2 called strikes on the outside corner, and then swing at a ball 2-3 inches farther outside than the first 2 pitches.
