I've entirely come to expect all doubleheaders to be day/night split with split admission now...how long has it been since there has even been one where one ticket gets you into both games?

Not the Cubs, but I went to this Sox/Indians one in 2013 and it was one of my favorite live sporting event experiences:

8 hours of baseball(plus a 30 minute rain delay on top of the break between games), 46 runs, it was awesome.

My weather report doesn't look good for today... what does it look like out there?

all the weather reports I've seen suggest the rain stopping sometime between 7-8pm. The Cubs will likely do everything possible to play this one, as they already have 3 home makeups on the schedule.

i guess hawk and stone were speaking (pretty glowingly) about the cubs last night (how many runs we score and how well we pitch) and stone matter of factly dropped in that we don't have a good defense. ha.

I love how Stone says stuff and is so sure of himself and he's way wrong.

I was at the Cubs / Padres doubleheader in April of 2005. It was cold and crappy. Wood vs Peavy in the early game and Prior versus some bum in the second.

Hey now, Brian Lawrence had three, almost four 200+ IP seasons in a row with a positive WAR every year. Then he tore both his labrum/rotator cuff and well, that was that.

So on StubHub its showing 7pm tickets for the game tomorrow still. If I buy those 7pm tickets I can get into the earlier game too?

Edit: Nevermind just read that it is a Split Double Header. I saw some things about only needing 1 ticket tomorrow so I assumed it wasn't.

I tend to think pretty highly of Stone.

I mean, how good is our team defense? We have some studs for sure, but we're also pretty mediocre in some ways. Fowler is average at best in center, Bryant and Zobrist are pretty "meh", and let's not even talk about left field.

He's a real top shelf announcer.

I'm not going to pretend to know/understand the metrics behind it but fangraphs had indicated that our defense has been very good.

I would agree. He's about as good of a color guy as you'll find.

lol

We're the #1 or #2 defense in baseball by most measures.

Okay, that's basically what I was asking. I was hoping someone could explain to me why he is wrong, since I don't understand advanced stats very well.

This is how good the Cubs' defense has been this year. Anecdotal scouting reports by message board posters tend to be a year or two behind the curve of reality.

I was asking an honest question. Since we obviously have a few sub-par individual defenders, I am curious how this stuff is computed.

Is this serious? First off, Baez, Heyward, Rizzo, and Russell are all studs. So half our lineup is studs. I mean what more you want?

My mom apparently knew Steve Stone in college, he was dating a friend of hers.

Anyway, I find him pretty annoying now, he's tooootally smug even when he's just flat wrong about stuff. And everyone has this reverence about him, like he's a walking Baseball Encyclopaedia, and he just isn't.

Re: our defense, its really good. Bryant rates out very well, Fowler has been great since he's been told to not play shallow, and Zobrist has rated out very well even when he doesn't look spectacular. (Though this year my eye test is not giving him a good grade, but I also know not to trust your eye for defense solely. On Fangraphs, for the year, he's positive)

So we're talking about a defense that, when Soler isn't it, is either average or very positive at every spot on the diamond. That's pretty good.
