So this Cesar Vargas guy...

http://mlb.mlb.com/images/players/525x330/alt/570714.jpg

...he's been pretty good so far, and he looks like he knows it. People seem to hate making good contact against him, which makes him ripe for a humblin'.

The Cubs have both their own Cesar guy AND a starter with a deer suit:

No contest. Go Cubs!

David Ross is gonna be tired as hell. Please come back, Miggy.

Oh and let's dong the hell out of these guys and get 7+ from Jon to give the pen some reprieve.

This week was fun as hell. But we need a little less drama for a bit. Let's win 'em all by at least 5 or 6.

This is your jealous White Sox fans update:

The Cubs play has officially ended the "Cubs haven't played anyone good" argument. Unfortunately "omg they are the Cubs they will blow it just like 1969" and "the AL is the far superior league, if the Cubs and Sox switched schedules they would be even or the Sox ahead in record (editors note: despite the Cubs having a ~+70 lead in run differential)" are still completely valid theories for Sox fans

Unfortunately it seems the the Cubs will only be validated in the meth addled eyes of White Sox fans if we defeat them in a baseball contest.

no, they will always go back to a world series. they already have some theory about how we already knew the cubs were "regular season good" and it remains to be seen if they can become "postseason good"

Well, yeah. It's why I couldn't give two fucks about the run differential. All eyes should be on building for the postseason. The regular season is damned near a foregone conclusion at this point.

Also, that thread starter gif might actually be better than today's. Keep it rolling.

Really? Shoring up a lefty reliever before the deadline? This team could win 125 games but I'm still worried if Wood is called in for a high leverage situation in the playoffs.

That's a silly concern to have (and even if it weren't, all eyes should be on fixing our LOOGY situation? and that's why you don't care about our run differential?)

And yes, really.

This team could win 125 games and you should be worried because there is an 80% or so chance that we won't win the world series. That's what the playoffs are and how they work.

I feel like some kind of lame boring broken record having posted this so many times in my life by now but I guess it still needs to be said.

Pretty much this, the only "building" you can do in my eyes is trying to do everything you can control in making sure guys are healthy or as close to 100% as they can get by the time the playoffs start. Which, like the playoffs, is largely due to luck and things you can't control.

Well, yeah. Of course any concerns about a 23-6 team in May is a silly conversation and we're splitting hairs at this point. By July, I hope this has either settled itself internally or they address it, as I'm sure they would.

This year might have the most meaningful Cubs-Sox series...ever?

I mean...as much as an interleague series can be.

I honestly think we've been using some of our pen as innings eaters with the intention of dumping them come July/August. We are making a concentrated effort to limit the innings of some of our starters. The MO has been to find some random arm from the pile every August. We're already beating playoff caliber teams, but it is only May. I trust Theo and Co. to do what is best for the team.

Do the Padres have fans? It doesn't appear that they have a message board that's not affiliated with MLB or the newspaper.

The world series will be pretty meaningful.

The weather isn't looking good on this. Jesse Rogers said a lengthy delay or postponement is likely. Probably not the worst thing in the world after yesterday's game, honestly.

Yeah next off day is Thursday. Coming off a high energy 4 game weekend series with an extra innings ending, they could use a little rest.

One more White Sox note:

I know their response would still be that the NL is a way inferior league or something but funny because last week they were crying about our easy schedule.

The Padres aren't off Thursday, so it could be interesting trying to make the game up if it does not happen.
