The Cubs are everything that I've hated about baseball the last 20 years or so. Team with a large payroll that is buying the world series.

Yeah, I feel like we're in Golden State Warriors mode right now. The regular season actually does mean something to me this year. If we get anywhere near the wins record, it's gonna be sweet.

It'd be cool to get to 100+ wins because this team hasn't won 100 since the 1930s, but beyond that...I'd almost prefer if they just rest dudes down the stretch even if 116 is within reach.

 

Not everyone will agree with me, and thats fine, but that's proooobably how I'll feel once everything is wrapped up in late August.

I love that fans are starting to hate us because we're good And not just because the fanbase can be seen as annoying. Watching cardinal fans and others complain without even able to throw "1908" at the Cubs would be even better. But this is so great. Too bad the playoffs are a stupid crapshoot

i really can't even grasp the idea of the cubs being hated by everyone in a yankees/cardinals/red sox type way and being that team with a bunch of (recent) World Champion banners at wrigley and all that stuff...it'd just be such a drastic shift in public perception.

It is going to happen fast. It took several years before people stopped thinking the blackhawks were a cool story and started hating everything about them. The Cubs hate will be huge across the country before October. It's going to be a preemptive hate. There will be no grace period.

I thought there were unused tiny flag poles at Wrigley. Are they still there?

That's a good question. I imagine there would be something on a foul pole at least the year following the title.

Yeah, the other sports forum I frequent horsefeathering HATES Cubs talk and everyone is totally resentful about it. And its only been 1 year. It's only gonna get worse.

 

I dunno if I see a 90's Yankees run (nothing can guarantee that kind of playoff success), but I do see at the least a 2000s Cardinals run, a decade of excellent teams that all get into the playoffs and at least snagging a couple.

A 90s Yankees run is too much to expect I think but a 2000s Cardinal/Red Sox run is a reasonable target to set.
