I didn't see anything regarding how they would market Bryzzohtani to the world.

You forgot to incorporate Harper's name in there.

I actually did think about that. BryBryzzohtani?

This team has too many really good players. Contreras deserves recognition here. He's my sneaky candidate to be WAR leader for the team in 2018.

You people need to stop post trival garbage speculation and start posting news reports of us signing him already. I rely on this thread [expletive]

Don't worry we got this now that we have confirmation we get to give our formal pitch. We have Theo/Jed who are going to give the most well prepared, reasoned and persuasive presentation, the best MLB manager to handle a multi-positional player along with just being able to handle him as a person, a pitching coach who pretty much has only had young up and coming pitchers to develop his entire career (and has quite a good track record with it), a bunch of other highly thought of young guys who can help him deal with the pressure/expectations he's going to have, a TOR/HOF pitcher in Lester to take him under his wing and also 2 other very smart and accomplished pitchers in Q and Hendricks to help him out, some of the best facilities of any MLB team (if not the best), a very good track record recently of pitchers avoiding injuries (and even when they hit they generally are minor) which can't be all luck and has to have something to do with our strength and conditioning and other programs we have for pitchers, an engaged and active (in a good way) ownership group who isn't afraid to spend money and will do whatever they can to help him out, a first class business ops that will help with the best endorsement deals, a engaged and eager fanbase, the ability to "be the man" in the rotation, if not right away, in the very near future as Lester ages/contract comes up and Q's/Hendricks contract come up right as he will be hitting his prime, the best core of young players to join for long-term competitiveness, and did I forget Theo horsefeathering Epstein.

“Thats all fine and good but what about flight times to Tok-“ (sees the angelic faces of TheoCo) “horsefeathers flight times” - Ohtani

If thats what we’re going with i like it

I looked thru our schedule and tried to project Ohtani's likely playing time. If we use him every 6th day, with the rest of the rotation pitching regularly, then this is how the starts panned out....

Lester and Hendricks get 31, Quintana gets 30, Ohtani and Cobb or whoever get 29. And our 6th guy would project for 12. I actually really like that scenario.

From a hitting standpoint, if you figure he sits the day before and day after he pitches, it leaves him with 84 opportunities to start in the field. Granted, maybe he sits versus lefties? If so, I guess you could subtract 15-20 starts from that total. Even if its the high end though, he'd start 64 times, plus 29 more while pitching. Add in pinch hitting most games.....Its definitely possible to find him 350-400 PA.....

Starts by position.....Example obviously

C Contreras-122, Backup-40,

1B Rizzo-152, Schwarber-10

2B Javy-90, Zobrist-40, Happ-27, Seal Boy-5

SS Addy-130, Javy-32

3B KB-152, Seal Boy-10

LF Schwarber-100, Zobrist-25, Happ-25, Almora-12

CF Almora-90, Heyward-45, Happ-27

RF Heyward-70, Ohtani-65, Happ-15, Zobrist-12

DH Seal Boy-5, Schwarber-4

Total Starts

152- Rizzo, KB

130-Addy

122- Javy

122- Contreras

115- Heyward

114- Schwarber

102- Almora

96- Happ

77- Zobrist

65- Ohtani

40- Backup C

20- Seal Boy

There's plenty of AB's to go around for everyone, even with Ohtani being added to things, with no subtractions.

The idea of a 6 man rotation with him (or doing something like after every 6-8 starts for him his spot is skipped to let the rest of the guys stay on their normal rest and he gets use to a MLB starters schedule while still getting rest) seems to be really smart and I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s part of our pitch. As was mentioned he didn’t pitch much last year so he probably won’t/shouldn’t go much past ~150 innings, it allows him to stay on his regular rest schedule from Japan and not have to switch to a different rest schedule and also allows him to maximize time to hit by making fewer starts.

If you do that you can let him start in RF a couples time when his spot is skipped.

Drunk Joe's willingness to be creative is an ace in the hole.

So who do we all think will be at our meeting? Theo/Jed/McCleod and probably some other FO nerds, Maddon and Hickey I could see as only coaches, possibly Ricketts and Crane then Rizzo, Lester, Zobrist and Heyward player wise? I could see Bryant not being there as the former 4 guys seem more like the vocal leaders.

I think KB definitely will be there, assuming some players go. He's probably got the most in common with him.

I'd suspect the same guys you mentioned, possibly with Hendricks and Quintana, to meet his rotation mates. Maybe Willy, to meet his battery mate. Almora, to meet the guy playing next to him in the OF.

That said, it wouldn't shock me if they brought the entire team. Just depends on what Theo knows about him from a personality standpoint.

You guys really think half the team is going to come to this presentation? I’m thinking Bryzzo and that’s it if any players even come

Wasn’t it the Mariners that told like the whole team to clear schedules this week? Not that, that’s the right route but seems teams are going all hands on deck. Lester being there makes a lot of sense to me along with Rizzo and I mentioned Zobrist/Heyward too just because they seem like vocal leaders and also signed as FA and can give testimony to why they chose Chicago (also part of the reason Lester I think should be there on top of talking pitching and experience with Theo/Jed).

That tells me that the respect factor put them at the table. But, you're obviously going to piss off at least two of those three teams. Don't think it means much going forward.

The hell? What’s that mean?

That would mean that the "real" finalists are the Mariners, Giants, Angels and Cubs.

Just kidding. It means he's ours.

btw - with Ohtani having already turned them down, how fun would it be to have Stanton use his NTC to deny a trade to st louis?

Signing him to $300k. What happens in year 2 and beyond? Is it then all arb eligible?

Theoretically, he'd be on autorenew contracts through year three. He'd hit arbitration after that.
