I know whoever gets them puts them in the front-runner position for the long term, but it will pretty much only be a one year deal no matter who he signs with because of the spending limits, right? Then he goes off into free agency?

No, he'll need to accrue 6 years of service time to be a free agent. Whoever he signs with will have him through 2023.

Let's hope Ralph has no actual info here.

it's basically just an incomplete parroting of the same stuff that's been out there

west coast (and maybe the cubs since they haven't been ruled out)

If traveling back to Japan on a semi-regular basis is important to him, Chicago will be out.

When is he ever going to have time to travel back to Japan during the season?

Weird, not sure why I had this assumption.

I mean yeah I get the West Coast is closer but we’re only talking 2.5-3.5 more hours of flying to/from Chicago vs the West Coast cities.

honestly when it's going to be over a 10 hr flight either way is the extra 4 or whatever hours really that big of a deal, especially when it's twice a year and probably private.

And to start the season, it's going to be Arizona (or Florida) anyways. So it's really only one flight from team home back to Japan per year.

Flight time from XXX to Tokyo:

Seattle: 10h 40m

Chicago: 13h 20m

LA: 12h 10m

SD: 12h 10m

SF: 11h 20m

Honestly, it's not that much difference.

Ohtani: I can't wait to fly back to Japan for a short visit!

Hasn't Theo already been in a room with him, though? Didn't most teams schedule meetings with him in LA this weekend? I'm sure Theo and Jed met Ohtani and his agent when the Cubs did their presentation.

I don’t think anyone has actually met with him or his reps. They’ve just sent in their questionnaire and maybe their presentation in PowerPoint or video form. He reviewed all those and is picking what 5 or so to go face to face meetings with now, I think.

Oh okay. Well, that's one of way of doing it I guess. I thought teams were getting short 30 minute sessions with Ohtani and his agents this weekend in LA.

This upcoming week in Los Angeles. Like, the Mariners told their people to clear their schedules for Tuesday through Friday this week to meet with him.

I have it on good authority that Theo has purchased the rights to the Concorde and right this very second is assembling one for Ohtani so he can make trips to visit his family on Cubs off days
