There's no harm in promising and giving him 300 PAs. He's a professional. As such he's not going to want to keep hitting if he can't do it well- which is the real concern, isn't it? I mean besides injury risk. I thought that scouts were suspect of his ability to hit MLB pitching. I think all that will play itself out in time. If he can hit, teams won't mind giving him the promised PAs. If he can't, he won't mind being just a pitcher.

How hard would it be to cover “Jon Lester” with “Shohei Ohtani” in the recruitment video?

And then pretend we never won the world series

Lie lie lie until he signs

Just gotta follow the example of the all time FO greats:

One of the leading candidates for the Yankee job is Hensley Meulens:

"Meulens played with the Yankees from 1989-93 and has served as the Giants’ hitting coach dating back to 2010 (including in each of San Francisco’s three World Series-winning seasons). The Curacao native speaks five languages, including Spanish, Dutch and Japanese, which would serve him well as he communicates with a diverse group of players on the Yankees’ roster."

That's not a good sign.

It's...not really a sign of anything.

Prior to yesterday, I had done a really good job of not getting my hopes up and almost completely disregarding Ohtani when thinking about the 2018 roster.

Buuuut, that's over with. Now I've got him starting opening day.

Ugh. Why are you hoping Hendricks, Quintana and Lester all injected heroin in their foreheads?

Law doesn't see Ohtani as a 5-win player FWIW

I mean there’s only like 6 to 8, 5 WAR pitchers a year and it’s not likely he hits much more than 150-175 innings this year.

It does feel a bit underreported that Ohtani only threw 25 innings this year due to multiple leg injuries.

It is one of the reasons projections have him throwing under 150 innings in 2018 but I agree with you.

The Cubs falling short on facilities? I don't buy that. We have state of the art home facilities now and the spring training complex is huge and like 3 or 4 years old.

Also. my understanding is that Spring Training in Florida is WAY worse than ST in Arizona from the players' point of view. In Florida apparently everything is stupidly far apart, you spend half your day in the car/bus.

Assuming we get a sit down with Ohtani, I have to think adding Cobb before then, would enhance our chances a bit. Maybe a pen arm too.
