So is it time to worry about Heyward yet? Because in all seriousness, I can't remember the last time I saw a guy look so lost at the plate. The only other guy I can think who completely forgot how to hit and it wasn't injury related at an age when he should be at his peak is B.J. Upton- which just so happened to be after signing his first big contract.

He doesn't need to start another game this year. Whatever defensive prowess he has isn't worth the complete and total black hole that he is at the plate. Use him as a defensive replacement late in the games.

Yeah, Heyward needs to stop being used as a starter against everyone. Only use him as a pinch runner or defensive replacement. Fix his swing in the offseason

It's not even a slump or being lost at the plate. He just does not have the batspeed to get around on a low to mid 90s belt high fastball on the inside of the plate when everyone in the stadium knows it's coming. It's not something He is going to break out of. . If they value RF defense that much, play Almora. I'm beginning to think Dusty was ahead of his time for stubbornly playing Jose Macias so much in RF.

His approach at the plate is basically the same as just mashing random buttons during an AB in The Show. I really feel bad for the guy.

Maybe he should turn "guess pitch" back on

Seeing a few downcast faces, Heyward gathered them, players only, and began talking.

"You guys should all look in the mirror and understand we can get it done," he told them with a dash of anger, a pinch of passion and much love. "I don't care who it is. There are a lot of [things that happen] over the season. You're not going to be happy about some things, and some are easier to swallow. Just be happy in this moment, in this situation, because you can come through."

He mentioned Baez's muffed safety squeeze attempt.

"That's a tough thing," Heyward said. "We've all got to be ready to do what our manager asks us to do, and it's not easy. It's not easy for him to make the calls and pull the strings, but it's not an easy thing for us to do, either. And [bryan Shaw] is a tough pitcher to bunt off of, too.

"I understood Javy was frustrated, but I also understood that we, as a group, live and die with each other's at-bats, and I wanted to remind him that, hey, you guys will be fine. We've overcame it before, we can do it again. Just, everybody be ready. Yeah, I know what the situation is now. Yeah, I know it's game tied, it's Game 7, whatever. But just know you can get it done, and I wanted everybody here to feel like they accomplished something to get us to this point because it's true."

"I went to the bathroom," Cleveland manager Terry Francona said. "I mean, [the delay] was only about 10 minutes. I don't think it had much impact."

So I guess that horrendous strikeout he had at the end there to not drive in another run from 3B with 1 out was just to REALLY drive home the point he was making. What a guy!

Looking forward to a normal Heyward and Schwarber next season blowing away most team's FA moves.

I can only imagine the outcome of our post season if he had even got 2 or 3 timely hits. He had 0 impact offensively. I am totally amazed we were able to completely hide his bat when just about every other single player either scored or drove runs in on offense. I was actually happy that he struck out there instead of turning it over to 2nd like he was so prone to do. I really hope he is able to turn it around this winter.

I really like how people are making a big deal out of the pep talk he gave the rest of the team and then he....goes and has probably the worst at bat he's had all season. I guess it worked for the other guys!

Maybe he's a magical talisman and he gave the Cubs good juju all season, but well, whatever. Tough season for the guy, he made more than a few great plays in the World Series to rob hits, he deserves the ring for never hanging his head at any moment.

Yeah, hopefully that was just an especially bad capper moment to an unfortunate offensive season for him. I mean, I get it; he's stupidly vulnerable to fastballs and there's a fastball pitcher on the mound, so he's just dead set on making contact with the fastball he knows is coming...though even then, I'd rather he just bunt.

At least he didn't hit in to a DP.

So apparently Hinske and Heyward live together in Arizona now, and Hiske has been instructed to either fix him or drag him out into the desert for a meeting with Tuco.

That looks pretty smooth, but I have pretty much no clue what to look for in a swing profile.

I'm instead going to fantasize on how wonderful it would be to have a .380 OBP and .450-.500 slugging fixed (younger version) Jason Heyward in this lineup.

Lowering his hands drastically like Rizzo was the first noticeable thing. Secondly, he doesn't turn his wrists over half way through the swing like he was last year. It's a much smoother and quicker swing.

It is very Rizzo with where he's starting but it seems like Heyward is still moving/loading his hands a ton, which seems to be a big issue with throwing off his timing. Rizzo's hands are a lot more "quiet" when he's actually taking his swing. But baby steps with Heyward I guess.

I have no expertise in a baseball swing. None whatsoever. And I agree that time will tell if he improves. I also like the fact that he's changing it up.

But since this is a message board, I will put in my 2 cents. I don't like the swing at all. It might be an improvement over the prior swing, but that would not be difficult. I know golf does not always equal baseball. But if this were a golf swing, it would result in a weak slap slice.
