The paranoia is increasing by the day for me..the Cubs just can't seem to shake the VB's or the Cards, and its looking like it'll go to the wire. It feels like the Cubs are running on fumes getting chased by the dreaded Cards with a tank full of gas. The Cards have gotta come back to earth....don't they?

I mean, unless you expect them to play at an .800 win percentage the rest of the way...

Its not so much that, its that the Cubs will take a horsefeathers combined with the Cards surge.

What in the last few years would make you think the Cubs will take a dump down the stretch?

My only concern is this long stretch without a day off will have a toll. We just need the Cardinals to cool off by then

Yeah. I'm a bit worried about the rest of this 23 game stretch. The Mets suck. but it looks like we're getting both deGrom and Thor, and then on the road for Braves/Phillies/Brewers/Nats. I think we're going to give back a few games during this stretch, so it would be really nice to be up 4+ going into Monday.

That being said, the Cubs have 35 games left. If they go 18-17 they'll end up with 92 wins. The Cards would need to go 20-13 (98 win pace) and/or the Brewers would need to go 20-12 (101 win pace) to match that.

At least it looks like the wind will be going out pretty good vs deGrom and Thor and their offense sucks and have Hamels going in one of the games. So at least it’s about as good conditions as possible facing those two.

From an article on theathletic.com:

"I feel almost like a Catholic priest at times,” Maddon said...

Really Maddon? You couldn't think of a better way to describe whatever point you were trying to make?

I assume he was referring to the Cubs recent homerun surge, when they got to touch em all.

so parkins and mcneil had nightengale on about his report that maddon's job could be in jeopardy and he sounded about as stupid as you would expect

Seriously? Maddon's job in jeopardy? The only Cubs manager to win a WS in our collective lifetimes? The guy who is averaging 97 wins per season since he got here?

It's nice having a super competent front office. I think I'm finally used to it after an entire lifetime of mediocrity there.

Nice comeback after the Yu/Chatwood offseason.

Not sure if you are implying this but I wouldn't categorize them as incompetent moves, they just didnt pan out as one would hope. Most people thought getting Chatwood out 5280 feet would only help him and people were excited about Yu's signing. Hindsight etc.

Yeah the only offseason move I didn't like from jump was bringing back Duensing even at a minimal cost. I was hoping for another high leverage guy as a backup in case of a Morrow injury instead. I know, Cishek, but I wanted another.

Chatwood looks dumb for jumping the market and being just flat wrong on the player evaluation.

Darvish doesn't bother me because there are no non-volatile free agents. That money either gets spent on guys who might blow up or it just sits there, so if they blow up, they blow up.

“Any time I have to worry about what Bob Nightengale writes or what anybody else writes, then I should just pretty much hang things up anyway,” Maddon said, before dropping the beauty. “It means nothing. That is actually dumb.”

Not saying it'll happen...

Epstein has 3 years left on his deal..

Just gonna say that IF Epstein not planning on extending Maddon for whatever reason after 2019, maybe he considers letting him go so he can offer the next guy to at least a 3 year deal..

With Girardi still available for now, maybe Epstein wants Girardi to take the reigns going forward..
