It’s a trade that is all about the future, which is fine if the future is what floats your boat. And it apparently floats an armada, judging by Cubs fans’ reaction to the trade on social media. But the interesting part is how little the present seems to matter anymore.

The team will have control of him for the next three years. Listen to the crowd roar!

But what happened to this season? Or are we supposed to forget that it ever took place?

Morrissey...

Because this deal also somehow made them worse this year?

Because there's another pitcher out there the Cubs could have gotten that would have made them better this year?

What did he want the team to do? Am I actually going to have to read that article to find out?

I just don't.... understand.

Morrissey and the Sun-Times are total hacks. They've lost complete Cubs credibility for a while now

I'm not even that big of a fan of the trade, but its like he picked out the dumbest possible take to pen out. Lulz.

Does anybody have any worry with Q's somewhat high WHIP numbers for his career? 1.20+ isn't terrible but those don't generally translate to the low ERAs he's had in his career. Am I reading too much into it? Cubs defense should be a boost to him any way?

Wait my mind is literally blown. We trade 4 players who are playing in High-A ball or lower for a top 10 pitcher in baseball and his complaint is that we focused too much on the future?

Like, I can't even begin to unwrap that logic. I get that there are sports writers out there that live and die on hot takes crafted to get a reaction out of fans, but this doesn't even make any sense. It would be like saying "My friend repeatedly cheated on his girlfriend, why is he so obsessed with commitment and being faithful?"

Is there a caretaker or something looking after him?

Something tells me Morrissey would've been happier had we acquired someone much worse than Q but simply had just this year left on his contract. By his logic, that would "show 'em we're all in on 2017, forget the future!" even if the pitcher was far worse than Quintana (which is more than likely they case they would be).

It's just really dumb. Of course we're gonna talk about a contract in a big trade.

Its good to be excited about the player Quintana, and simultaneously okay to reference the contract in discussing why the trade is good and why it was okay to trade our top two prospects. He's a dumb hack writer trying to make it seem like the latter invalidates the former.

While he criminially underrates Quintana, evwn if it was true, a reliable #3 would go a long way to righting the track this year.

Does Willson have his own thread yet? I would create one but I can't think of a clever title for it.

Anyways, in the last month Willson has hit like a superstar.

From June 16 to July 16: .356/.411/.690/1.101, 8 2B, 7 HR

Yes his BABIP is .393 over that stretch but IDGAF. After a really slow start, Willson's season numbers are pretty damn close to last year's stellar rookie year in roughly the same number of PA.
