There’s really nothing remarkable here. Lots of athletes take time out of their schedule to visit [expletive] children.

What a [expletive] word filter.

I think it was put in place because of the use of it in a nickname for the Cardinals was annoyingly common at one point.

Almora before the Reds game (0 for 3 vs a righty)...

.226/.268/.311, 52 wRC+ vs righties (113 PA)

.360/.475/.560, 173 wRC+ vs lefties (61 PA)

It's not a large sample, obviously, but sheesh. He really looks helpless vs sliders. Once everyone returns from their injuries, probably treat Almora as a platoon player only or defensive specialist late. Can't really afford to screw around there anymore.

I'd rather just trade for Cameron Maybin or Lorenzo Cain but yeah.

The plan was to platoon him with Jay before the rest of the OF was struck down with the plague. No need to trade for someone when they can just go back to that once Schwarber and Heyward are back.

I'm kinda thinking that the plan once everyone is back would be Schwarber-Happ-Heyward. Almora and Jay cycle in against good matchups.

Yeah, I think I'd rather have Heyward in CF than Happ, but Happ has proven to be reliable and solid-average in his short time in CF. We'll see how it all shakes out once everyone is healthy and Schwarber returns. J. Jay is a great weapon to bring off the bench as a PH. I didn't think much of it when we signed him, but that was a great pickup.

Agreed that the optimal defensive alignment is Heyward in center and not Happ.

Wade Davis is the Cubs default all star. Yeah it's nice that our guys would get rest but kind of crazy that the defending WS champs only have 1 all star and it's not a guy who was on the team when they won the World Series. It will be the Joe Maddon show in Miami

Can't believe lamb made it over Bryant.

Bryant one of the 5 candidates for last man vote. Has the 3rd best fWAR of the candidates but I bet he's voted in

I'm all for only send Wade. And it might be beneficial to just chill at home and re-group. But Bryant not making the All-Star Game will look really stupid by the end of the year.

Agreed. Kris Bryant is one of the best players in the game, NL MVP and one of the most popular players in all of baseball. There is NO way he doesn't get into the All-Star Game, unless H. Harrelson is choosing a Third Baseman because then we all know he'd choose T. horsefeathering Frazier lol.

Not only is he helpless vs sliders but he swings at everything and gets himself out on crappy pitches

I'm holding out some glimmer of hope (however faint it might be) that some team thinks he's a centerpiece of a deal at the deadline.
