I'm going to wait until after the playoffs and then start an argument that Epstein was actually wasteful in building a team this good and that he should have saved some bullets for sustained success rather than trying to goose up his extension value.

starting this argument in the game thread where the cubs are on their way to winning the world series would be a way more kyle thing to do.

Could this hiring at all be part of a preemptive move in case McCleod leaves for a GM spot this offseason?

Probably not specifically that but more in the general sense that they need to constantly add to the staff because they will be losing guys.

With bullets like KB, Rizzo, Russell, Javy, Contreras, Hayward, Schwarber, Solar, and Hendricks......We're sustaining like a horsefeathers.

I found this part of Dave Cameron's FG chat today funny:

Amarillo Windmill

12:22 How can you say the Cubs are "far and away the best team of 2016" when they play in the incredibly weak National League and have two of the worst teams in baseball within their division? Put them in the AL East, and they are still fighting to win their division.

Dave Cameron

12:25 That's silly. The Cubs are 20-7 against the Reds/Brewers, 69-42 against everyone else. So they've won 62% of their games against the other 27 teams; no one else has won 62% of their games against the entire league, even without eliminating the games against their weakest opponents. A failure to recognize that the Cubs are clearly baseball's best team this year is a failure to see what's staring you in the face.

Then...

Amarillo Windmill

12:33 That's not fair to just use the Cubs' W/L record against non-Reds/Brewers teams. They still got to play those teams. They still got to save their bullpen in those games. Their SPs still got to cruise in those games. Etc. Etc. Playing in the NL has obviously inflated their record compared to playing in the AL East.

Dave Cameron

12:33 You're making stuff up.

The Cubs >>>> everyone else this year, and it's not even close to being close.

The Yankees' position player with the highest fWAR has played in 30 games. Their pitcher with the second-most fWAR is a relief pitcher. They are 4.5 games out of first in the frightening AL East.

Also the Cubs have the best interleague record in baseball. Even better than the AL teams who spent their interleague time playing all those NL teams, with their hitters that have polio and their pitchers who throw the ball the wrong direction.

I love how that guy pisses on the Reds and Brewers, like the White Sox/Twins or Angels/A's are soooooo much better?

Yeah but their records reflect all the powerhouses they play in the AL. If the White Sox played in the NL Central they would be a 90 win team

Oh my god Thom Brennamen is on the Score and he's complaining that the Cub fans don't have 'humility' in absolutely destroying the Reds

whatever dude get over it

What does that even mean? We don't feel bad our team has donged all over them this year?

From reading their forum, Reds fans seem to have this sad, pitiful inferiority complex when it comes to the Cubs. I saw a bunch of complaining on there in the past about all of the Cubs fans in their park and cheering loudly. They echoed Thom's thoughts that it was indecent to cheer for your team in another team's stadium. Though, they were also so very angry with Thom for singing Kyle Schwarber's praises after he hit, like, 22 mammoth dongs against them last year.

I mean I guess we kind of ignited their shitty bullpen and pitching on fire early in the year in that series at Wrigley. But their pitching was already shitty to begin with, we just kinda compounded that by Donging them to shreds

I never knew how much Reds fans hated the cubs until, like, five years ago. I'm still surprised it's a thing.

We've never competed for anything at the same time in my life. I pretty much only hate one team and find another one annoying at times and that is about it though.
