My only issue with the idea of trading Russell, is I'm guessing his value isn't all that high and he could still fill a decent role on the team. He probably shouldn't be planned as a 145-150+ game starter next year with Bote and hopefully Bryce around. But he can still be pretty valuable for us in a role as a defensive sub/depth for injuries/start maybe 80-100 games. My biggest issue with the idea of trading him would mean we have to sign like a Jordy Mercer type for likely more aav than he'll cost in arbitration next year and Russell still has the great defense which we can deploy and hope for the bat to not be complete ass.

I agree with above. No reason to give him away or "blink first" on a so-so trade. The Cubs are pretty good this year with a sh!t rotation. Adding Harper or Machado and they can still be pretty good with a sh!t rotation. Maybe, just maybe, not playing everyday turns him around. At least enough to raise his value.

I for sure, no joke, think Addison Russell is a really bad offensive player and I think he's only getting worse. If he ever gets his slugging percentage near .400 maybe I will think he's average.

ETA: He has seven XBH since July 1 and two total in his last 25 games. He doesn't have one this month. His last one came on July 31 against Pittsburgh, which I think was the one where he even screwed that up by getting thrown out at third.

That said, I always will appreciate him for the grand slam.

Haha in the offseason I said we should trade him cause of reasons and people, I think a certain robotman leading the charge, was like "HES A 24 YEAR OLD 3 WAR PLAYER ARE YOU CRAZY?" or something I dont remember. But I was definitely one of the first to be all about shipping him out.

Its weird to talk about trading current guys as I hope they all play great, even Daddison Russell, but if we are going to add Bryce this offseason maybe package Daddy with Schwarber for the biggest return we can get and play up his defense+youth+supposedBarryLarkinpotential to someone stupid like the Mets. Make Chatwood be a part of it to add salary, and get one of those GOOD starting pitchers some teams out there have.. include Almora or Happ or both if you have to, I dont care.

By then the Cardinals will cut Dex and we will sign him for minimum and he will go back to All Star levels because karma is real.

C Contreras

1B Rizzo

2B Bote/Zobrist

SS Baez

3B Bryant

LF Harper

CF Fowler/Adam Jones/some cheap vet who will play out their ass because we are a super team and thats what super teams do/Almora

RF Heyward

Any of you bozos think he might be injured?

It came out last month (maybe a little later actually) he has some sort of hand or finger injury and basically just has to play through it. It won’t get worse that they’re risking further injury but also won’t get better without extended rest. I think it’s definitely playing a role. Sounds similar to Zobrist’s wrist thing last year.

he has nearly 2000 MLB PA's and is barely a 90 OPS+ player. last year it was a shoulder injury, now it's a finger injury. people need to just admit that he's not a very good hitter.

The Cubs would be better off with Javy at SS and Zobrist/Bote at 2B, while some idiotic team takes "Addy" for a decent starting pitcher. hopefully that happens in the offseason.

His 2016 at age 22 seemed to really presage something special, he hit 21 dongers in 598 plate apperaances. It wasn't a tremendous offensive year, he still OPS+ under 100, but that kind of possible power with elite defense at shortstop at age 22.....thats something.

Now its nearly 800 plate appearances later and he's only accumulated 17 further homers. Ho hum.
