Theo has a week to make this right, as far as I'm concerned. Russell needs to be DFA'd. Not benched, not suspended, not traded.

 

And good for Melisa for going public with it. Unfortunately, this will likely follow her around for the rest of her life. But, this needed to come out and she was only one who could do it with any authority.

It sounds like he needs some serious therapy, his lifestyle and mental health are probably why he is struggling both at work and at home.

 

From a baseball standpoint, that posting shouldn't lower his value from the Cubs' perspective. They know about the abuse & his lifestyle far greater than we'll ever know. We probably know about 10% of the worst things he's done (personally, I've heard some horror stories about other players from a diff. organization).

 

As I mentioned, reading that shouldn't change their perspective on him, he was bad both on and off the field before she posted that (despite it bringing a realism to it not seen before the posting). It sounds foolish to me to all of a sudden say, just get rid of him now that that is out. If they were going to unload him for his off the field stuff, that should've happened when this 1st came out (which would've been the right thing to do).

I honestly would be surprised if they did. The post doesn’t get any more specific than “put his hands on me” with physical abuse, and it’s a lot easier to talk yourself out of punishing Russell for being a manipulative and unfaithful husband. Best case scenario is they re-open the investigation and she cooperates this time, Russell barely plays the rest of the season because he’s been terrible and they have Murphy, and then after the playoffs Russell is jettisoned one way or another with this stated as a primary reason.

He’s definitely done for this season given the timing, I can’t quite picture what would be needed from Russel’s Side to have him in a Cub uniform next year. Different scenario, but that big time prospect with the pedohilia charge just went undrafted and unsigned, this horsefeathers isn’t being tolerated anymore
