Wait....Moises Alou? Why?

Moises Alou was a whining, complaining baby. The Bartman play was just an example of everything wrong with him.

Moises Alou never went into the stands to catch a ball in his life yet he threw a fit because of Bartman. Maybe I remember things differently but I can't remember him ever backing off on blaming Bartman.

Todd horsefeathering Hundley people

Thats one I can get behind. Alou had too awesome of a career and too many great moments as a Cub for me to ever hate him. Agon had all the walkoffs and was just generally not a hateable dude despite biffing the most important grounder of his career. Todd Hundley, though. F that dude.

Wait....Moises Alou? Why?

There was an annoying kid on the old cubs.com forum that worshipped Alou like he was Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron, and Willie Mays all rolled into one, I think some long-timers might have negative feelings toward Alou that stem from those memories.

On a more rational note, it always seemed like he only hit when everyone else was hitting. He put up great numbers overall, but he never seemed to be one who could pick up the slack if someone was out or in a slump. The kind of guy who could turn a 6-2 win into a 10-2 win, but not so much the guy who could turn a 1-0 loss into a 2-1 win. He also never seemed inclined to hustle.

But it's been a long time, I may just be remembering him in a bad light due to the whole Bartman thing.

That might have been me.

I was all about the Alou signing, and he never really seemed to recover his rep with most Cubs fans after his first year with them was relatively disappointing. He kicked ass the 2nd and 3rd season, but that first season combined with Bartman and the whole pee-hands thing did him in.

Well he somewhat backed off. Claims he still would have caught the ball but it wasn't Bartman's fault.

Moises Alou endorses Cubs' hopes to honor Steve Bartman

Alou reiterated what he said after Game 6. “You know what? I had the ball,” Alou said. “I got upset at the same time. It’s not the kid’s fault.”

No way is he catching that ball. He was a shitty defender.

I also greatly disliked Alou. He always seemed like an horsefeathers teammate/person.

I honestly think he had a shot to catch it but it was far from a sure thing. But we've all known forever that it was Alex Gonzalez that truly fucked the Cubs in that inning.

I never hated players for sucking. Even as big a bust as Todd Hundley was, I could never bring myself to hate on him. Just Moises Alou, for some reason.

Now, Cubs managers...that's a different story. Don Baylor and Dusty Baker can go straight to hell.

Of those four, Hundley was easily the most unlikable human being. He also has other unique qualities those other guys do not share.

Also Don Baylor wasn't a good manager, but that's way too extreme.

Hundley both sucked and was a dick about it. There was that one time where he flipped off the fans. That pales in comparison to Russell.

Alou would have 100% caught that ball if no interference. It was dropping right into his mitt.

That team was locked in, making all the plays until the Billy Goat started kicking.

I was convinced that Corey Patterson, Juan Cruz, Hee-Soep Choi, etc...were the future of the Cubs, and Baylor was actively working to destroy them. Unfair and illogical? Most likely. But we're talking about sports hatred. There's nothing fair or logical about it most of the time.

I despise Joe Maddon more than anyone who has ever worn a Cubs uniform, and that includes Cap Anson.

in fairness you are an idiot

This is true, and game recognizes game, so I'm unquestionably right on this.

I hated Hundley and I was like 13 at the time and hadn't moved past hero worship of anyone who was on a sports team yet.

The only other king of the hated (with apologies to LaTroy Hawkins and a few others) is Edwin Jackson. I know he's a decent guy and it wasn't his fault he was Theo's first big FA signing here, but my God, that dude's work for the Cubs just made me angry on a visceral level unseen before or since.

most of my hate is for pitchers - glendon rusch (though he follows me on twitter now so he's cool) shawn estes and jason maquis.
