I want him off the team, but I'd be okay with suspending him for now and trading him in the offseason.

This.

Ricketts, Theo, and Jed don't seem like the kind of guys who will sit on their hands and let this one play out. He needs to be gone until this is investigated and let the dust settle where it may.

Yeah, and from what I remember, even the people that didn't like Milton Bradley...they didn't like him because of his glaringly obvious character issues, they didn't like him because he didn't hit for average or he 'wasn't a good team player' (hint hint).

I think everyone has come a long way since then, but similar to what was echoed earlier, I'll give this board a lot of credit for pushing me in the right direction.

It just shows how much stuff has changed; I genuinely don't remember his 2006 domestic abuse calls coming up at all anywhere when the Cubs signed him. Compare that even to how much attention the 2011 charges against him got. With his signing with the Cubs, all of his attention was focused on his on-field attitude, which sucks.

this was a big story last spring, they looked into it & assuredly learned much of, if not all of what Melisa just shared and decided to stay the course with him; they've already failed the test

There’s multiple examples of this front office leaning on a lack of legal or technical proof to let things slide. Maybe things have changed, and/or maybe Russell’s performance changes their calculus, but i’m not optimistic they’re going to make a decision we find satisfying.

Yeah, I suppose it's some level of progress that there's the level of outrage about these things now that there is.

Yeah, they've got a lot to prove in how they handle this, and, quite frankly, I'm not confident that they'll handle it well at all.

Did we know Bradley was a DV offender when he played? It was my understanding that stuff came out after he was done. Of course, we already knew he was an horsefeathers.

It was a big story in a relatively small circle of the world based on a 3rd party social media post that was deleted(?). And she apparently didn't participate in the proceedings. They couldn't have learned much, and probably preferred it that way.

This is different.

Because his wife decided to not cooperate with the investigation and didn't confirm the abuse. Were the Cubs supposed to dump him over a tweet from one of his wife's friends claiming abuse? There wasn't any proof and both parties were denying the allegations last year. This new revelation is a whole diffent scenario, it's coming directly from his wife.

I don't believe she denied the allegations.

She didn't participate in MLB's investigation. I don't like the term "cooperate" since it heaps so much blame/responsibility upon the victim.

True. Sometimes the victims are wary to come forward. Although, she didn't confirm the allegations either which put the Cubs in a tough situation to do anything of consequence, which I don't view as "failing" to act. As I said before, this his a whole different scenario.

if they 'preferred it that way' to not know about his abuse, then they already failed the test

And that it grants way too much legitimacy to something which amounts to little more than the entity who employs the accused asking, "did you do this?" And then people who don't want to believe it act vindicated when the victims don't want to cooperate with an investigation run by the people whose best interest is making the person accused look as good as possible.

This is my memory too. I don't think anything more specific than he was a jerk and a hot head came out until after his Cubs tenure. Though considering how the media treated him from day 1 (Paul Sullivan talked a ton of horsefeathers during the very first televised ST game that year), they probably had a pretty decent idea.

This sucks about Russell. This was always what was most likely, but all we really knew for sure was that he was a cheater. Now that Melissa has come out and said these things, there's no ambiguity. Send him home today. Non tender him in November. Don't drag this whole saga put in the hopes of netting some B- prospect.

i don't see why they couldn't have had a brief conversation with the friend/'nanny' and i'd expect it'd quickly materialize if she was on the level or vague/vindictive-sounding; she was (courageously) throwing bombs on social media, i don't see why she wouldn't have been willingly forthright with team brass in a fact-finding pursuit at that point

Melissa may have specifically asked her to remain quiet

It's not a competition. He's a garbage person, and the Cubs knew it.

So because a guy has different opinions than you, that makes him a horsefeathers person? I 100% disagree with Murphy but it’s his opinion. And my guess is, he’s far from the only one on the Cubs that disagrees with the gay lifestyle.

Opinions deserve scorn if they're [expletive] opinions. A white supremacist holds the opinion of racial superiority, and he should absolutely be vilified for such a thing. Holding horsefeathers opinions absolutely makes someone a horsefeathers person.

Yes, they’re both scummy. But can we at least agree that there’s a big difference between the white supremacist whose white supremacy is limited to point of view and the one who actually acts upon it?

What point did you possibly think you were horsefeathering making when you posted this.

No. No, that's just dumb.
