This whole situation sucks. The Rizzo comment sounds bad and probably someone from the Cubs should coach the players on how to respond to this shitty situation. Definitely, do NOT say "We support Russell during this difficult time" or something to that effect.

I have no idea what happens to Russell going forward. I don't think we non-tender him, but he's definitely getting moved this offseason now. Probably similar to the Aroldis Chapman trade (sell super low).

His quality of play has nothing to do with this: he’s a monster and he needs to be off the team

Agreed, but for baseball executives running a business, him being a crappy player makes it so much easier to just cut ties than if he is of the talent of Manny Machado.

I hope the Cubs suspend him without pay and get him some help. Kicking him to the curb only eliminates the symptom. They need to try to cure the problem.

I'm not sure that they can suspend him without pay if he hasn't been actually charged with a crime.

Yeah that might be a little hard to do, putting him on the restricted list is probably the thing to do

I was probably hoping that they could hurt Russell financially. I figured there wasn’t anything they could legally do.

But I do think the Cubs should help him. And then cut him. I really don’t want him to be part of this organization.

This is one of the most terrible threads I've ever read. First off, screw Addison for being worse than the soap scum on Yadi Molina's shower shoes. If that wasn't bad enough, now we're criticizing Rizzo for not making strong enough of a public display? I don't think you can get any more self righteous than to criticize Rizzo for not waging an all out SJW war against a guy who he doesn't know if he's going to ever be back in the clubhouse with him or not. Ducking ludicrous.

Outside of the past month, Russell has not been a "crappy player"

Phew, thank goodness you've got your eyes on the prize here, Tim.

He's also an atrocious human being, which is obviously more important.

oh come on. rizzo could have just said "no comment" and people would have been fine with it.

So apparently the Cubs couldn't take any disciplinary action or investigate this since it was under MLB investigation this whole time? It seems like the Cubs hands have been kinda tied with a lot of this.

So people are now projecting what they think Rizzo thinks about this situation and criticizing him for it because he didn’t answer the question exactly right. Sounds reasonable.

He answered it pretty damn poorly, not just less than exactly right.

To me answering it poorly would be something along the lines of "How do we know she's not lying" or "I don't really care what she says now we are trying to win a championship."

Looks at this dude right here wailing about how "terrible" this thread is because nobody is taking into account the VERY IMPORTANT issue of clubhouse chemistry between Rizzo and accused abuser Addison Russell. THANK GOD YOU'RE HERE TO GRIPE ABOUT THOSE DAMN SJWS.

Do better, Rizzo.

i don't know what rizzo's feelings are, but i don't see anything wrong with that quote

Besides offering an opinion and then admitting that he has no idea what he's talking about?

duuuuuuuuuuuuuude we are through the looking glass with you lmao

Maybe not, though. People could be pissed that by no commenting, he is also not speaking out against it.

So horsefeathers Addison Russell for putting them in that position by being a horsefeathers.

But not so much so that we apparently need to make sure to accurately give Addison Russell his advanced statistic-based value its due. God forbid someone say he sucks right now.

What do you think all of the other players said? Surely Rizzo wasn't the only one asked. If he'd said no comment, they would have just not printed anything about his opinion.

Cubswin11 just wildly liking posts without reading them at all.

horsefeathers, I am in a meeting trying to kinda discreetly scroll through and keep accidentally hitting likes with my fat thumb on my phone. I don’t “like” what that poster(s) posted.

Disagree. He's one of the faces of the franchise. Whatever Rizzo said, it was going to be published or tweeted. As it should be. Nobody gives a horsefeathers what Randy Rosario thinks.

To me, those answers would go beyond answering poorly and enter into an entire new realm of "oh my god did his fiance leave him at the alter or something, what an horsefeathers."
