the last 10 games for the 5 teams in contention for the 2nd WC....

4-6

4-6

5-5

3-7

4-6

this is going to be more the norm for the 2nd win wild card rather than our 2015 97 win behemoth

so, while not on brett favre's level, it's possible the cubs ended (and i'm not saying it was intentional nor am i cool with the meatheaded beanball crap) the career of matt holliday, much like the bears ended favre's when corey wootton engraved him in the frozen turf in minnesota.

Let's be clear, it was Bobby McCray for the Saints in the NFC Title game in the Superdome that ended Favre's career.

Yeah, don't take that away from Wooton. That's all he's got.

Survive the game is what Favre didn't do. A second quarter sack by Bears defensive lineman Corey Wootton gave Favre a concussion and ended his career.

"[it was] one of the most minor hits I've ever [taken]," Favre said. "The guy didn't even hit me, he pushed me. I threw the ball and the field of course was solid ice, it was like concrete. I hit the left side of my head and the next thing I remember, I was snoring as our trainer was kind of shaking me saying, 'Are you OK?' I look at the footage, even though it wasn't long, there was that 10-15 second period where I was asleep."

For pretty much a full calendar year the Cubs have been far and away a significantly better team than the Cardinals. Owned them through the regular season and owned them in the playoffs.

As a longstanding Bears and Cubs fan...it feels good.

Can someone figure out the Cubs record since the Phillies swept them last year & the Cardinals record from the same date?

Yes... but I feel like with the Cardinals run towards mediocrity at the end of last year the Cubs might be pushing 20 up in that year long stretch.

Quick mental math so I might be off by a game or so, but:

Cubs: 118-60

Cardinals: 97-82

21.5 games

If we finish this out today we are at 119-60 over 179 games.

Thats a 107.7 win pace. Round up to 108 cause that sounds friggin awesome and the Cubs have played at a 108 win pace over an ENTIRE season of baseball at 179 games.

& that was with a horrid month long stretch.

Hell they are at a 108 pace & I'd guess underperformed their pythag. They have probably been playing closer to a 110+ win team for around 180 games.

Lately, that has been happening as the Cardinals have inserted themselves as strong wild-card playoff contenders. And Molina isn’t ready to just throw his hat into the wild-card race. He still eyes a run at the National League Central Division title, in which the Chicago Cubs lead the second-place Cardinals by 12 games.

“How many games do we have left?” he asked.

Told that it was 39, Molina said, “Anything can happen. You know that. I’ve been on teams 10 games back and with 20 games left and then we win the division or we make the playoffs.

“Anything can happen. Obviously, Chicago is playing pretty good. They’ve got a good team. But we’ve got a good team, too. We’re playing better baseball and we’re concentrating on the division. We’ve got to keep playing the way we are right. Then, whatever happens,

“Concentrate on ourselves. Don’t focus on anybody else.”

That's completely made up, right?

8.5 games with 20 to go in 2011.

Unfortunately, only a slight exaggeration, as NPC pointed out.

You probably just had to look to your 2011 St. Louis Cardinals commemorative plaque hanging next to your desk for this, didn't you?
