who would the cardinals throw in the wild card game, assuming they would clinch it early enough to have their pick of their 5?

They'd have Wainwright. They should send out Martinez.

That's a good point. All the logic in the world would suggest throwing Martinez in the WC game, but Matheny will go with the grizzled veteran that he's been to war with as a player, and Wainwright will somehow throw a gem and we will have to face Martinez, the only Cardinal pitcher that even comes close to scaring me, up to 2 times

That's kinda what I was thinking. If they lucked into a win, it would be annoying to face their actual best pitcher in game 1.

Also I'm shocked that Wainwright hasn't sucked out loud as much as I thought.

i never thought i'd hate tommy pham less than i did

The Cardinals seek out pond scum to fill out their roster, but occasionally an OK guy is acquired by mistake. Just like sometimes their pond scum leaks onto other good guy rosters like ours.

wong is still pond scum, let's not get crazy here

jesus christ. i must be hungover or something. i was transcribing wong and pham in my head the whole time.

tommy pham is cool with me. especially after actually watching that clip.

I'm not sure how Leitch can write an article about the Cards 2016 season and not mention how the Cubs basically have destroyed the sport of baseball for a year.

In any other division this is a spirited race, and heck they have a 'winning' record against the Cubs and they're 15 games out.

I also love that he lists Tommy Phams "big"HR against the Cubs last year as one of the memorable postseason moments of the last handful of seasons and I have literally no recollection of this HR.

Yeah I literally have no idea what he's talking about. I remember Heyward's homer against us and then....nothing except the donging of Cubs

I'm guessing it sticks out in his mind like Geovany Soto's HR in the 07 NLDS sticks out in my mind as a brief awesome moment within a shitty ass series

And Dero in '08.

Yep that too. But i would never think to bring up those HRs in a discussion with fans of other teams because they would have no clue what the hell I was referring to

i actually remember it pretty well, and I am not one to remember crap like that or dwell on it. but it was our 10th straight postseason loss and i did not loosen up until that glorious soler dong in game 2 (along with garcia pissing all over himself).

10th straight loss? The streak ended when the Cubs beat Pittsburgh.
