If the Giants hold on to win today then what would be the most agonizing way for the Cardinals to get eliminated tomorrow?

Cardinals down by 3 in the bottom of the ninth with the bases loaded and 2 outs. Holiday comes off the bench and hits a walk off Grand Slam to win the game.

About 10 minutes later. Giants down 3 with the bases loaded and 2 outs. Baumgarner pinch hits in the pitchers spot and hits a walk off Grand Slam to win the game. :D

Or better yet, Wainwright just gets shelled, the defense commits several errors, and the Cardinals are never in the game.

This is my favorite option. I'd love to see the stands empty out while the Bucs crush the Cards.

I wonder what would be the best way for them to go out...

Yeah, Wainwright getting shelled and knocked out early would be nice, but that would be too quick. It's not satisfying enough. You want them to really experience some pain. I definitely want some late dramatic comeback by the Giants along with some horrible collapse by one of the BP arms for the cardinals.

I personally don't like the concept of schadenfreude and hold no grudges against anyone. However against evil corporations and the cardinals I'll make an exception I guess lol

Maximum pain would be something like...

Giants go down big early. Something like 8-0. Cards get out to a big lead early - also an 8-0 edge. We're talking like the second inning for both teams. The Giants stay down and every Cardinal + fan is thinking they are on to a game 163. Then the Pirates start chipping away at the lead. It becomes 8-2. Then 8-3. Then there is a three run home run and it is 8-6. Now the full-on panic begins. What once felt like theirs is being taken away.

Then the Pirate bats go quiet for a few innings. Things start to feel safe again. The Cards add a couple of insurance runs in the bottom of the 8th. They go to the ninth with a four run lead. But because it isn't a save situation, Matheny doesn't bring in Oh right away. Siegrist gives up a seeing eye ground ball. Then he walks a guy. Oh still isn't up. Then Polanco hits a two run double and Matheny finally gets Oh up in the pen. Siegrist gives up an RBI single on the first pitch and Oh still isn't ready yet. Sean Rodriguez comes up and Siegrist grooves a fastball that Rodriguez puts over the fence to give the Pirates an 11-10 lead.

Oh is finally ready and shuts the Pirates down.

The Cards get the bases loaded with nobody out in the bottom of the ninth and go popup, sac fly not deep enough and runner gets thrown out at home and end on a Grichuk strikeout.

Extra pain?

Hahaha, extra pain. Well I like where this thread is going, but sadly the Giants are already winning 2-0. I do like all the gritty little details Tim described in that scenario, but most likely the Giants win easily and probably the cardinals do too. Eh, you can't always get what you want...

to be clear, even though i was rooting for the additional one game playoff, seeing the cardinals eliminated today would be fun too

Well, that was pretty satisfying 8-) . I can't complain I guess. I mean if they were worse and had a truly crap season that means they'd get a higher draft pick as well. This way they get a draft pick in the back of the 1st round and miss the playoffs. Hopefully the first of many to come!

I grew up downstate in Carbondale, which is pretty progressive compared to the rest of the area, so I was surrounded by cardinals fans and I take extra pleasure in them missing the playoffs. I could rant about st. louis and cardinals' fans for days non-stop, but there are some good fans in the group too. Enjoy not having an NFL team, and kinda (but not really) supporting the blues.

PS -- Not to get political or anything, but there are going to be SO many cardinals fans that are going to be even more upset after Drumpf loses on Election Day. They are going to be very upset about both the cardinals missing the playoffs and their guy losing to H. Clinton. Those fans deserve their complete misery I say.

man, that baseball's best fans account has been retweeting dozens of cardinal fans who keep saying that the dodgers lost on purpose because they're afraid of facing the cards in the playoffs. yes i'm sure they were super concerned that a team 10 games over .500 might win the wild card tiebreaker game, then the wild card game on the road, then a road series against the best team in baseball. it had nothing to do with the 162nd game being completely meaningless to the dodgers.

I was thinking it was gonna be sad that the "best fans" account won't have much to tweet now, but haha dummy, of course they will, cuz they'll still say all kinds of dumb crap during the Cubs run.

what a dumb douche.

As dumb as it was, I feel like Kaplan would have probably said the exact same quote if it was us.

Which I guess is just to say they are two idiots, not to ease off on the Cardinals guy.
