Someone said Cubs fans always throw shade on Grichuk and they don't know why. Then someone responded saying something like they knew Grichuk was more valuable than Bryant last year and they don't forget it or something dumb like that.

Is Grichuk even with the MLB team right now? He's been sent back down to AAA so many times I've lost track.

They've already given up more runs through 125 games that they did all last year, if they weren't hitting HRs at a crazy rate they be a .500 team at best

Just from an eye test perspective of the 2016 Cardinals, it once again baffles me how this team is above .500 and in contention for the Wild Card play-in game. Their defense is absolutly horrible, their starting pitching has been middle of the pack, their bullpen however has been pretty good overall, and it boggles my mind that the line-up Matheny trots out there every day is 4th in runs scored, and to top it off they've had a ton of injuries.

The Cardinal's "pixie dust" is in overdrive this year. We all know they will find a way to get past the 1 game play-in, probably beat Bumgarner of all people in the process, and face the Cubbies in a 5 game series to open the post season. We should be able to handle them, no question, but when that "pixie mojo" gets working in St. Louie, it can give me pause. It would be glorious once again to be the one's who send them home for the winter though. All things being equal, bring on the Giants/Pirates/ or Marlins.

The Cardinals are hitting so many home runs it inspired Jayson Stark to write one of his "You gotta hear this crazy horsefeathers" articles:

http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/17388615/st-louis-cardinals-winning-long-ball

Then there is the least known great home run hitter in baseball -- otherwise known as "Cardinals pinch hitters." They've already tied the single-season major league record with 14 pinch homers. And they've done it in a mere 175 at-bats. To put that in its proper, most incredible perspective, how about this: Cardinals pinch hitters have rolled up the same home run ratio (one every 14.5 at-bats) as a man who is threatening to lead the league in homers, Kris Bryant. Right. Of course they have.

Come the horsefeathers on. They've hit the third most home runs on all of baseball this season; it's not horsefeathering "pixie dust." They just dong a lot.

Of course they have been donging a lot. That's my point, they are making up for their deficeincies in other areas by being on pace to hit the 4th most team HR's in Cardinal history. From essentially the same team from last year that ranked 24th in runs scored to 4th this year. You should read Jason Stark's article.

But the team is a lot worse....and is far from guaranteed to be in the playoffs....so...I guess I don't see how that's pixie dust.

So because they're better in one area, but worse in others, that's "pixie dust?" It's literally just a bunch of guys hitting home runs; teams having power surges vs. what they hit the previous season isn't unusual. I mean, they're actually UNDER-performing based on their pythag, but we're supposed to think they're freakishly lucky?

They're a bunch of dumb slugging mooks who aren't really very good at much anything else. Not worried about them at all.

The Cardinals have 1000+ PA already from Moss, Diaz, and Gyorko, players who didn't really feature into last year's team, plus a full year of Piscotty. It's not much surprise that they bear little resemblance to last year's offense. The Cards have a lineup without an obvious deficiency, and many of those okay hitters are guys who are selling out for power(Gyorko, Holliday, Grichuk, Adams).

Their problem is what we thought in the preseason, that they're a team devoid of star-power. Right now they're on track to have at most one player hit 4 fWAR(Carpenter). By contrast, the Cubs will likely have between 5 and 7 players at that mark. Without that upside they're basically a team of solid role players and middle of the rotation starters, and that's how you get to be a team making a beeline for 86 wins.

Worried about them how?

They're obviously not gonna catch us, but losing to them would be easily the worst of losing to any of the other playoff teams.

At this point, I honestly don't care; losing in the playoffs will be losing in the playoffs, regardless of who it happens to. I'm just annoyed by the sentiment that the Cardinals are especially dangerous because my both my dad and brother seem to put the caveat of "yeah, but the Cardinals are probably going to make the playoffs..." after nearly any talk of how good the Cubs are, like the Cards are destined to win it all if they make the playoffs. horsefeathers that horsefeathers.

haha wainwright getting pounded again

And they're getting two hit by someone named Seth Lugo.

and he just left with an arm injury which is kind of funny because mets

My dad is exactly the same. He is a cubs fan, but he insists that the cardinals have "been there before" and that they will have the "it factor" come october. It's tiresome talking baseball with him because of that.

Annoying I'm sure, but he's just one of millions of fans who have been let down too many times. They can't let go and just enjoy this year for what it is

After the way this season has gone, I'm going to be incredibly depressed if we lose to anyone in the playoffs (which statistically has about an 80% chance of happening, YAY BASEBALL). I'm not going to be sitting there watching the Nationals celebrating thinking 'thank god it wasn't the Cardinals'. If they somehow define all odds and end up winning it all, it'll just be a little salt in a gaping wound.

I'm hoping they make the playoffs because I'm confident they're the second worst team still in contention (besides the Marlins), and I'm hoping for any small advantage to up our odds. They team suck, and we're better in pretty much every aspect of the game (and we even hold our own in neck tattoos).

Edit: It was like the 9th best dong of our October, but I'll forever have a soft spot for Wainwright's washed up fake-hardass shell coming into the game in relief and having Soler immediately put one out at like 140 MPH.

cubs fans haven't been let down too many times. they have lacked opportunities to be let down

Let down as in are rarely worth watching until recently. Decades-long fans have had the hope beat out of them

Yeah, I feel like they're a team the Cubs can really clobber the piss out of, and worrying about them over a better team just because they're the Cardinals seems ridiculous. If they were a GOOD Cardinals team, fine, but this is an OK team with some mashing goobers and nothing else.
