I like how he just declares something, like, "baseball is losing its popularity," as if it simply is so.

"Personal anecdotes/bias projected as accepted fact" is at the root of most terrible sports journalism

Yeah, baseball is so unpopular that owners are quick to sell because they're losing so much money. :-"

Just to spell that out again, if, for instance, the Cubs hold off the Brewers in the NL Central and Milwaukee earns the top wild-card spot, and the Dodgers, Rockies and Cardinals wind up in a three-way tie for the two remaining spots, the Rockies’ schedule could look like this:

Sept. 21-30: 10 straight games to end the regular season.

Oct. 1: Play the Dodgers in L.A. for the NL West pennant.

Oct. 2 (If they lose Game 163): On to St. Louis to play for a wild card.

Oct. 3 (If they win in St. Louis): In Milwaukee for NL wild-card game.

Oct. 4 (If they beat the Brewers): Chicago for Game 1 of the NLDS.

Me too, Ted.

Tomczyk is concerned with what he believes is an increasing number of players entering professional baseball with elbow injuries or having already had Tommy John surgery. “What jumps out to me is the draft,” Tomczyk said. “I think we are seeing [effects] of the year-round player, and more and more [youth players] are getting the surgery.

Yeah, I'm concerned about this as well. So many young pitchers are getting this surgery in HS. Velo keeps increasing and pitchers keep throwing at maximum effort.

I will say maybe with starters going fewer innings and an adherence to a strict pitch count that this will help reduce it at the big league level.

Since 1950, there have been 20 10 fWAR batting seasons. Trout and Betts are both at 9.1 fWAR in only 129 games.

I feel like the team probably would give them tickets or something... but this guy sounds like such a douche with his "we need to negotiate here"... uhh no you don't. This is not your property. You have to give it back.

We once had a guy that worked in the stocking warehouse for one of our customers call our distributor claiming he found a piece of equipment worth $5000 on the side of the highway. “Must have fell off the truck.” He wanted a finders fee of $1000 or “half.” We called the sheriff.

Of course the serial number showed that it was delivered to his place of work.

The Yankees have 247 home runs this year with 10 games to play. They're on pace for 263 and the record is 264. They play Baltimore, Tampa and Boston. Even though they can't win the division, they're only 1.5 games up on the A's for the first wild card and I assume they don't want to play in Oakland on a Wednesday and then in Boston on a Friday if they win so they should be playing their normal lineup for at least the next few days.

Weird that Dave Kaplan is sensitive to criticism of a man who was terrible at his job, actively avoided learning how the game works to make himself better, and whose only case for sticking around seemed to be corporate politics and inertia.

Harrelson was the worst announcer that I ever heard. It just goes to show you that if you hang around long enough, somebody will honor you

The worst part is he hasn't gotten worse over the years as Hary Carey did, he sucked like this right out of the chute. Reinsdorf loved him for some reason. Let's not forget Jerry made him the GM and he produced one of worst stretches of baseball in WS history.
