It's funny, I really like Impemba and Allen together (being in Michigan I end up seeing a bit more Tigers than I otherwise would) and spent most of last season and this season wondering why bland Kirk Gibson was being emphasized over Allen. I guess I have my answer.

So Deadspin had a little blurb about a month ago mocking Francoeur for his hilariously dumb idea about how home runs can be rally killers:

“Don’t get me wrong, we all love the home run stats,” Francoeur began after hearing that the Braves lead the National League in doubles. “But I love the double stats, too, because, to me, you’re just keeping rallies going, you’re keeping the line moving. Not that you won’t take home runs, but sometimes home runs are rally killers.”

Today, Deadspin posted one of their Dead Letters segments, where they share some of the hate mail they get, and the response they got for that one is just incredible:

I won’t bother responding to your ageist comments about the Braves commentators, but I will educate you on what Francoeur meant when he said home runs kill rallies. If you did your research you would find that statistically when someone hits a home run, the next batter strikes out at a high percentage. In that way home runs can kill a rally. There are several possible reasons for this. First, following a batter that just hit a home run causes you to feel pressure and subconsciously you try to hit a home run yourself, which greatly reduces your ability to do so. Second, the pitcher that gives up the homer experiences a surge in adrenaline and many times has added velocity to his pitches. As far as your comments about the Braves commentators, you come off as a liberal millennial who just views southerners as racist, conservative, white men. In an age when giving “hot takes” is all the rage, yours are silly and devoid of fact or even common sense.

Mariners are just full of statistical anomalies this year.

14 games over .500 with a (-)53 run differential

34-18 in 1-run games

13-1 in extra innings

Edwin Diaz with 54 saves (in just 78 team wins)

Randomly stumbled upon this and it was extremely fascinating. Kind of old though so it might've been posted a while back. Features cool technology and insight into pitcher injuries as well

If this dude is actually good, he's going to be fun to watch for a few years until he gets too ginormous.

Which one of these is the correct call? They look like the same play to me, but Javy was out and Cardinals guy is safe.

I *think* it's three feet out of the line you had already established toward the base, right? So a quick one-step dodge is fine, but two is probably not.

Where is FJM when you need them?

Baseball is losing popularity because we can’t get excited about a player getting 100 RBIs in a season like our grandparents did? Wtf

Yeah, there was a great tweet in response to this. It was something like, “I live in Tulsa and I can’t watch the Astros, Rangers, Royals, or Cardinals or any of the teams they play, But wRC+ is what is ruining baseball”.

I like how he just declares something, like, "baseball is losing its popularity," as if it simply is so.

"Personal anecdotes/bias projected as accepted fact" is at the root of most terrible sports journalism
