why do all cardinals fans talk in baseball slang from the 1940s

That Lackey is going to gas the old pill right past the Chicago nine.

Who uses the term "plate attempts"

Its the one concession the guy at ESPN who likes baseball had to make to the 5043534534 other employee's that wanted to talk about the Patriots for 58 minutes of the show.

So, is there a crowd on Waveland/Sheffield ala 2003 during the games? No TV shots of it.

let's work on getting shots of who is warming in the bullpen and check swings before we go asking tbs for footage OUTSIDE of the stadium.

or multiple replays of plays being reviewed or having the pitch count on the screen at all times or not having guys watching their first game of the year working the booth.

I don't think it can be stated enough how terrible the TBS coverage has been.

I mean, they can't even get the names right. Or the K Zone camera aligned properly. Or sneak in a human interest story without falling all over themselves.

Lackey on 3 days rest in his career (think this is only regular season but could be wrong):

2 GS, 9.1 IP, 10 H, 6 BB, 5 ER, 4.82 ERA

Edit: I guess he's pitched on 3 days twice in the playoffs with considerably more success but both outings lasted less than 6 innings and it was back in 2002 and 2005

I love it how Soler's twitter feed is all retweeted Soler hype.

and it started like 3 minutes after the final out was recorded

Them starting Lackey on short rest seems incredibly silly, especially if they actually want to win the series and not just stave off elimination, they have to win with another pitcher anyway, and having Lackey go with full rest would be the best bet

But well, I'm not gonna complain

Hoping Hammel has a good first inning. Cards hit righties well, so I'd expect Wood and Richard to be ready to go early if necessary.

We've been in Matheny's head for over a month. Grichuk when he couldn't throw, Molina when he can't hit, and now panic button with Lackey. I [expletive] LOVE IT

Especially considering Lackey's ERA is a full 2 runs higher on the road, now coupled with short rest. If I'm Matheny I try my best to win a Hammel/Lynn slugfest and get to G5 with Lackey at home on normal rest. Now if it goes to G5 the Cubs probably get Garcia who they've already beat up once.

They're desperate, no doubt about it.

Their "historic" staff is a shambles right now. Lackey is the only one with a decent chance of avoiding being smacked around.

Cubs now 77.9% to win the series, 50.2% to win the NLCS and 20.2% to win the World Series (best odds in the NL) according to Fangraph's playoff simulator.

Dunno why their stats favor the AL so much in their simulation, but it's pretty surprising (and gratifying) to the see the Cubs so far ahead of the NL pack.
