they have beaten most cubs fans into the ground forever.

Tons of teams have kicked the Cubs' ass repeatedly for a long time because we root for a team that has been garbage for most of our lifetimes and beyond.

It's haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack.

but when you can't deny that it's different when your chief rival has been one of the most successful teams in baseball for the past 10 years, it's kind of taxing. Truthfully, I'd rather listen to Cardinals fans, who actually have something to hang their hat on, run their mouth than Brewers fans act as though we share some imaginary , storied rivalry.

They've been a much better team for the most part; that's it. As terrible as Bears fans are at least for the most part they seem to get that the Packers are simply a much better run organization as opposed to constantly chalking it up to luck or sorcery or who knows what the [expletive] like Cubs fans constantly do with the Cardinals.

i don't care how great an organization GB is, there is a huge amount of luck that comes with going like 25 years with brett favre and aaron rodgers at QB

that [expletive] just doesn't happen

^ seriously? It's Mike Leake dude. What's your point? Is it that the Giants #1 isn't as good as ours or that Mike Leake is someone I should be upset about the Cubs not acquiring?

Yes, the Giants' #1 prospect isn't that great. He's a top 75-100 prospect, which is fair value for two month of a #4 starter like Leake.

Plus he's been lights out this month

Real dumb luck would be a team like the Bears ending up with either QB. With the Packers is just a li'l pinch of luck.

Baseball seems to lend itself to mysticism based on how random and bizarre events can be. I mean, obviously in football there's tons of luck involved (fumbles, tipped balls, missed field goals, etc.) but it has the veneer of skill having control of that stuff. You can blame the running back for fumbling, the kicker for missed extra points, etc. etc.

In baseball some bum can hit a bunch of seeing eye singles and your hitters can absolutely crush balls right at fielders and it just feels much more unjust. It doesn't mean it IS more unjust, but it can feel that way. And maybe because baseball can more adequately measure "luck" and "randomness", it makes it seem all the moreso prevalent.

Anyway, [expletive] the Cardinals.

Not surprised they didn't have to give up Wheeler.

I am still stunned Preller and the Pads stood pat. The claims that the actual reason was that Preller is convinced they can make the playoffs seems too insane to be real to me. Strikes me as something said more to appease fans/media.

Detroit didn't have the option of a qualifying offer for Cespedes, so Wheeler would've been a big overpay.

Yeah, I'd be pretty pissed if I was a Padres fan. No reason to not deal guys like Kennedy and Upton. Don't want to completely blow it up and trade Kimbrel or Ross? Fine. I get that.

Mets did give up a really good arm in Fulmer, though. Not elite, but still a steep price to pay for Cespedes. It certainly is probably worth the gamble to push for them, but Fulmer could be a really nice gem for the Tigers.
