The Cubs are 5th in MLB vs. LHP (by OPS), which gives me optimism. We are facing 3 excellent lefties, however, which gives me pessimism. Just take 2 of 3 so we can go into the break without any negativity.

FYI, the Sox are dead last in MLB vs. LHP with a disgusting .577 OPS, so Lester should be OK tomorow vs. Sale.

Very important game with Sale going tomorrow. Let's hope Hendricks can keep rolling.

My God, they could lose three baseball games in a row.

Sorry Fred. It was my wife's b-day yesterday so I wasn't able to get online to start today's thread. If Sneaky is still a no-show I'll start tomorrow's thread after today's game. Go Cubs!

That WHIP is horrendous, pretty lucky his ERA isn't over 5. At least one half of the Bryzzo is going deep today.

Having a day off after what transpired Wednesday night was intolerable. Win this and help me forget.

Ernie Banks 14th and Jim Hickman's 4th home runs seemed to be enough for Fergie(11-6) but he gave up 3 in the ninth including the down 1 2 out walkoff double by Ed Kranepool. This was coming of being swept in a DH by St. Louis and was the 4th of 5 straight losses that took the division lead from 7 to 3.5. After this one the lead was down to 4.5.

1984. 48-36 85th Game 3-2 Win over the Dodgers http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHN/CHN198407120.shtml

4 Game lead of 1st

2003. 43-41 85th Game 8-11 loss to the Cardinals http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHN/CHN200307040.shtml

Wood(8-6) was plastered for 7ER in 3IP Alou tried to help with 3 homers(11,12,13) and 5 RBIs but it wasn't enough Karros(8) and Sosa(12) also went deep.

2008. 50-34 85th Game 6-5 Win over the Giants http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/SFN/SFN200807020.shtml

The Cubs lost 2 of 3 to the Padres and Brewers (plus Washington) at home already this season and it hasn't been a stupidly bad season by any stretch.

Good teams lose to bad team sometimes in baseball. I wouldn't be happy about it, but lets not try to put too much on a single series against a bad AL team.
