I just noticed that David Ross is the only guy on the 40-man who was born in the 70s.

i just noticed that there were still guys in the major leagues born in the 70s

That's weird. Computers should know stuff like 35 year olds are in the major leagues.

Yesterday with the media, Maddon was talking about how he liked to hit Longoria 4th instead of 3rd because of more RBI opportunities. I wonder if we'll see Rizzo hitting cleanup more this year with Soler or Castro 3rd.

Interesting. I still would like the higher OBP guys higher up. Fowler, Soler, Rizzo followed by Castro, Montero, Baez, Coghlan, 3B (Olt?) to start. Then inserting Bryant ahead of Castro and moving everyone else down accordingly (and Olt out) once Bryant is up.

[expletive] this is going to be a fun few years to be a Cubs fan.

Tangotiger's work argued that 3rd is about the 5th place you want OBP because of the high probability of coming up with 2 outs and none on.

Fair, but wouldn't you still want your best hitter being there? That's Rizzo for now.

Nope. If you go by Tangotiger's work, you want your 5th or 6th best hitter there, someone who gets an unusually high proportion of his value from HRs and unusually low proportion of his value from OBP.

A 30% K-ing Javier Baez would be perfect.

I'm talking 2015 Major Leaguer here.

Sounds good to me. Not to get too deep behind the math, but I wonder if there is any element of the mysterious "protection" variable to it? Baez (or whoever) would get more pitches to hit because the guy behind him is a better hitter.

ESPN was at Cubs Spring Training today. Kirkjian said something like he expects the Cubs to trade Baez or Castro at some point this year to make room for Addison Russell. Still, the "experts" assume there's no room for everyone?

Theo was rocking a USMNT jersey (kit?).
