FWIW Huntington Park, home of the Columbus Clippers (Cleveland AAA team), is supposedly one of the best ballparks period. If/when I do my ballpark tour I'm going to be adding it to the list.

It's pretty great

Posted

I've done this before and I'm sure my order will be different:

  1. Wrigley
  2. Pittsburgh (PNC)
  3. Baltimore
  4. San Diego (Petco)
  5. Texas (the ballpark)
  6. Milwaukee (new)
  7. Philly
  8. KC
  9. Stl (new)
  10. Detroit
  11. Anaheim
  12. The Jail Cell
  13. Stl (old)
  14. Comiskey
  15. SD (Jack Murphy)
  16. Pittsburgh (Three Rivers)

I must be forgetting a few. Stupid busy morning at work!

i really enjoyed at&t the few times i went, but one time i went to a cubs-giants game there and people were crazy excited about the opportunity to yell at someone wearing a cubs jersey. one guy outside the stadium started screaming at me about how dusty baker was the only good thing that ever happened to the cubs and how stupid they were for letting him go (this was in 2010, too, so it wasn't some topical thing to bring up). after the game (which was really tense because the giants had a guy thrown out at home in extra innings), all the giant fans were JUBILANT and super excited to give me [expletive]. one drunk guy grabbed my shoulder and turned me around so he could tell me about how my team was cursed.

oakland's park is kind of a hole, but i always had a better time there.

The Pirates Spring Training stadium in Bradenton (McKechnie Field) is a must if you ever do a FL spring training trip.

I grew up there. Did they renovate it or something because that place has been there for like 25 years and there wasn't a whole lot that was very special about it when I was a kid.

They did renovate it, but that was actually after I was there. I just felt it had the real, classic ST experience. Last professional baseball stadium without lights in US. Players have to walk through the concourse to get to the batting cages. You are right on top of the players. The area itself wasn't that great, but the park was a throwback for sure.

Yup, sounds like the McKechnie I grew up with. My parents owned a fitness club in Bradenton and the majority of the Pirates would work out there. I got to meet guys like Bobby Bonilla, Andy Van Slyke, Jay Bell, and others. I played little league with Andy Van Slyke's kid (A.J. I think). I have an autographed Neal Heaton bat and a game worn Neal Heaton jersey. His bat was black... he autographed it with black sharpie. Not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

Fun story I've probably told before: My father was on the board for the local community center and he was attempting to get some autographs for a charity auction and he would go around to the players and they'd be happy to oblige. At the time Barry Bonds was in town and he asked the other guys if Barry would sign any and they all unanimously pretty much told him "No way, he's an [expletive] he'll never do it". Well my Dad approached him anyways while he was sitting in the lounge area relaxing and according to my Dad he couldn't have been more affable and signed an entire box of baseball for the auction.
