Sorry, Sulley.

Batting practice in stadium: New under Maddon is a desire to have batting practice in the stadium instead of the more convenient practice field, which is located right next to the Cubs locker room.

“Varsity has earned the right to be in the stadium,” Maddon said. “JV is trying to get to the varsity field. I’m a capitalist, even when it comes to being a baseball player. I’m not into socialism or communism.”

Maddon decided to have the big leaguers take BP at the actual stadium rather than one of the practice fields.

Right but...how does that relate to varsity vs JV and capitalism vs socialism vs communism? That's where I'm lost.

As far as I can tell, he's saying the big leaguers have earned the privilege of hitting in the big stadium and the minor leaguers haven't.

Varsity = Major leaguers = 1% capital pigs = get to take BP in stadium

JV = everybody else = 99% = no free handouts have to work their way up from the practice field to earn the right to participate in BP at stadium.

Ah, ok...I wasn't getting the Major/Minor league separation there.

Mark Gonzales @MDGonzales

The 6-foot-4 Soler, listed at 215 pounds, says he weighs 242. Added plenty of muscle, and he believes he still has maintained his range.

That is a large man.

I assume Lester/Arrieta/Hammel is locked... so are 4/5 still completely up for grabs between 4 guys?

Maddon *just* said today that 4 belongs to Hendricks. Only the 5th spot is up for grabs.

Patrick Mooney @CSNMooney

Joe Maddon also confirms that Kyle Hendricks is essentially a lock for #Cubs rotation, leaving the No. 5 job up for grabs.
