I've been envisioning something like this (wasn't expecting Rizzo to hit second) once Bryant is up

Fowler

Castro

Rizzo

Soler

Bryant

Baez

Montero

P

Coghlan/Denorfia

I was thinking, when Bryant is up something like this

Fowler

Soler

Rizzo

Bryant

Montero

Castro

LF platoon/Alcantara

P

Baez

Sexy.

Rizzo & Bryant are bros now, as expected

Rogers: You and Anthony Rizzo seem to be bonding. Is it because you have similar paths as highly touted players and stuff like that?

Bryant: He's been just a good teammate and a good guy. And our interests are very alike and aligned. We like to give back and be nice to the people that got us here, as well as do well on the field. And we're kind of similar players. It's cool to have a guy like that -- one I can kind of cling to and learn how he goes about his ways. He's helped a lot so far.

Rogers: Yeah, I caught a bro-hug between you guys the other day. Was that about anything in particular?

Bryant: Oh, I think that was after the live batting practice I had. He's like, 'You're a stud, dude.' He said something like, 'Whatever you're doing now I want to do, so I'm going to follow you around.' Something like that.

Javier Baez: There’s plenty to watch when Baez comes to the plate, starting with his approach.

“For now, we are going to be working on making more contact and seeing the ball all the way through the zone,” Baez said.

Baez was asked if he’ll shorten up with two strikes, something he never did last year.

“You’re probably going to see me doing it with one strike too so I can work on it,” he responded.

Remember, early offensive results in the spring should be taken with a grain of salt, as hitting conditions are ripe for batters and pitchers aren’t throwing their hardest -- or with their best stuff.

Time to start assuming that Maddon finds a miracle way to get the most out of him and Cubs end up with 5 18 game winners.

Lets just bring Schwarber up already. Kid does nothing but rake. Let him play short center for all I care.

That would be awesome if they banned the shift but added one guy, let him play rover and hit for the pitcher

There is your answer to how to make baseball popular with the millennials.

I forgot who comped him to Brian Giles as a hitter but I [expletive] love that.

There are people within the Cubs organization as high on Schwarber as they are on minor league player of the year Kris Bryant. That’s how good he might be.

I'm certainly excited about what he's done so far. It would be great if he could stick behind the plate, but that doesn't appear all that likely. Hopefully the DH is adopted throughout the league quickly enough that he can just bat, bat and bat some more.

All reports have been pretty damn positive since instructs.

On if the Cubs are tempted to move Kyle Schwarber to the outfield because of the bat despite the fact he wants to catch

“We are really fortunate. The three guys we’ve talked about so far with Russell and Bryant and Kyle [schwarber] to have three 70 or 80 makeup-type personalities here and like you said Kyle wants to catch, he’s committed to it. We are extremely committed to him catching. He has made so many strides since we drafted him last year. There was a lot of scouts out here at the Big 12-Pac 12 Tournament in Mesa over the weekend and they actually got to see Kyle catching Jake Arrieta down in the pens and they are like, ‘Oh my gosh, I can’t believe how this guy looks.’ So, obviously if you’re talking about that kind of bat behind the plate, that’s a special player and like I said he’s come a long way. That is the plan going forward with him is just to catch him. He’s an athletic guy in a strong, compact body and he’s going to surprise a lot of people that were naysayers in terms of his ability to catch. He’s going to go out and I think do a really good job behind the plate for us this year.”

It will take the prospect guys a while to catch on if it's real, though (and some still won't because they're stubborn - like Law - who I generally like).

Mike Olt:"The swing I had last year I was trying to hit a ball 500 ft. I need to hit it 330-340. Understanding that was a big mental step.”

Despite my jokes in the game thread yesterday, holding out a tiny sliver of hope that he can be a somewhat useful player propped up by defense and power.

If Olt can put 1/2 a season of good MLB ABs, he would be one helluva a trade chip at the deadline.
