Rogers on Cubs ST thus far:

http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/cubs/post/_/id/29181/cubs-camp-analysis-storylines-abound

Pretty glowing. He thinks that the Hamels market is going to pick up again before the end of the month. His ideas around who the Cubs might offer seem unrealistic to me.

I don't think an offer of Wood, Castillo, Almora, Vogelbach and another lower tier prospect seems unrealistic. Those are good players who become starters and top prospects for the Phillies.

However, It IS unrealistic that Amaro would accept that deal. Though I'm not sure how much better an offer he could field. I get the feeling Hamels isn't going anywhere before July.

That offer sucks

Kris Bryant in Iowa for 2 weeks means Cubs have him 7 years, not 6. Why talk about opening the season for a few games in 30-50 degrees?

I don't know why its taken me this long, but the reality has just now sunk in that those 6 or 7 years will probably be exactly what we get from Bryant before he signs a 500 million dollar deal or something with LA or NY. :( If thats the early feeling Theo gets, then its hard to blame him for making sure its 7 and not 6, meatballs be damned.

i'm not really fearful of losing anybody we don't want to lose, especially 7 years down the line.

A big market team losing their own player can only happen if they don't want to sign him.

if he's worth having his whole (productive) career, i'm fairly confident we'll have him his whole career.

Plus, there's a very good chance Bryant gets bought out of his first few years of FA anyway.

I wouldn't go that far.

Kris Bryant leads #MLB with 6 HR this spring. No MLB spring HR leader this century has failed to make an Opening Day roster, per STATS LLC.

There will be time for others to catch up. He's not on the 40-man and he's not making the team, so I'd expect him to be a relatively early cut.

unless they have to cut him for some reason tied to the 40 man that i'm not aware of, i highly doubt he'll be an early cut at all.

also, lol at anybody catching up to him. come on now.

100% chance then? Deals similar to what they did for Castro and Rizzo.

Seriously has Boras ever allowed a client to sign early and not test the open market?

Elvis Andrus, Carlos Gonzalez, Jason Varitek, and Jered Weaver are all Boras clients who signed extensions before they hit the open market. While all of these players signed contracts that secured them financially for the rest of their lives, they were all deals that were less than the market would have given them and they were all client driven because they wanted to stay with their current teams. One of the players who did enter the market, Ellsbury, said before his contract with the Red Sox ended,

“You have examples like CarGo, Weaver, Andrus, Varitek — there’s a ton of examples of guys that have signed before [free agency]. [boras] gives you advice, but it’s up to you to make your own decision.”

You think he'll be able to resist Bryant's charm?
