I've got a huge problem with my hometown's solution.

"Hey everyone! Let's build a brand new, billion $ stadium on the riverfront in 2019, with no team guaranteed to play there! And we'll only charge taxpayers for half!

Then, let's build it only three feet above the high-water mark from the 1993 flood, because that's "usually only a 500 year occurrence"

1844: Long considered to have been the record flood in

St. Louis, hydrologists have downgraded estimates of its peak flow to

less than that of 1993. The crest estimate, based upon newspaper

accounts, was 41.3 feet, even though the St. Louis gauge wasn't created

for another two decades. Flooding reached two blocks into the riverfront

district.

1903: The flood devastated East St. Louis, which was

protected only by a few low levees and railroad embankments. The crest

of 38 feet covered much of the American Bottom, including parts of

Granite City. Afterward, East St. Louis began building its first

floodwalls.

So only four of these "500 year floods" in the past 171. Great job as always Slay. Another job well botched.

Yup, and since we've plowed a lot of the backwaters over, it will only get worse

Yeah, having a hard time working up much "care" over STL screwing up a stadium for a team they probably won't have anyway.

Given the history of the NFL in StL (and the MASSIVE mistakes made re: any big stadia built here in the past 25 years) I agree.

But let's not act like the Cubs are on some pedestal of sports professionalism and long-term planning. If it weren't for the GemStar Satellite Group, John Hughes (a Sox fan BTW: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Only_the_Lonely_%28film%29) and Harry, (going back to the first point) where would this franchise be?

You might just have easily been fans of the Tampa Bay Cubs, or the Trib would've had to stick up Daley like Jerry did (for a POS pre-Camden Yards stadium somewhere)

Or, most likely, the Chicago Brewers.

You both can look up the history of the United Video Satellite Group versus WPIX in NYC or the Turner cable conglomerate.

Don't call me a nut without at least doing a little research.

You're a nut because you brought up a bunch of random Chicago crap for no reason and none of it changes anything about the points people made about the St. Louis stuff.

everyone should care about filling in backwater areas. everyone thinKs "OH THE POOR FARMER NEEDS MORE TILLABLE LAND" but is your children's future worth it? IS IT? WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE FLOODING CONTINUES? AND KILLS STUFF? THEN WHAT HIGH-ON-THE-HOG-MOD???

seriously tho, it is a bad thing to fill them in regardless of where. And I'd like to see St Louis keep an NFL team.

No see, you misunderstand. My comment wasn't a Chicago vs St Louis thing. It was a "St Louis is a [expletive] stain and I hope they screw up all the things" comment.

I'm not sure if this has been put forward before but here's a rule change I'd like to see. Remember a little while back people were grousing about the extra point being a boring play and what to do to make it more interesting? The NFL competition committee IIRC was looking into ways to spice it up. Here's my idea: the player that scores a touchdown has to kick the extra point. In the case of a completed pass, the receiver would attempt the PAT. The team would also have the option of the two point conversion.

Anybody that plays RB or WR in the NFL has the athleticism to be at least decent at kicking PATs. The success rate would not likely be the 99.9% it is now. I think the players would enjoy the challenge. Teams would still need someone to kick FGs so the kicker doesn't lose his job.

I think it would be more exciting to just get rid of the one point conversion.

I agree. If they're so fired up to dump the PAT, just go with NFL Blitz rules and make it a free PAT or you can go for 2.

They should keep it but just stop showing it. Run a little longer commercial and save us the post kickoff commercial break.

Still stinging from their playoff loss at Dallas, the Lions submitted a proposal to expand instant replay to cover penalties, including pass interference. Many Detroit backers feel the Lions would have beaten the Cowboys had officials not picked up a pass interference flag in the fourth quarter of the 24-20 loss.
