Probably Ron Parker.

I do believe you might be right:

Michael C. Wright @mikecwright

Hearing Bears might have a little competition for Ron Parker. Important to note, there's a long way to go in this one though.

Wonder what happens to Ryan Mundy. Not that it matters, because he's terrible.....but the Bears needed 2 safeties etiher way. Only Mundy and Vereen on the roster (besides filler like Anthony Walters).

A couple interesting things to come out of yesterday's press conference. Lamarr Houston is also going to be an OLB. Pace said the team is going to be in 2-4-5 nickel or 2-3-6 dime personnel probably more than 60% of the time. So, I don't know that you'll get a lot of money spent on a NT, and probably not the 7th pick (thankfully).

But seriously, at this point there's just Ratliff, Ego, and Sutton on the DL. And a previously barren LB position now has Houston, McPhee, Allen, Young, McClellin, Bostic, Jones, Greene, Bass, and Washington.

This seems pretty outlandish, even for him.

The talented @BradBiggs tells Cutler story with nuance, skirts calling out Pace for lying about trying to trade him. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/football/bears/chi-bears-ryan-pace-jay-cutler-20150311-story.html

Pace was "evaluating" Cutler right through free agency...to the point when no one else would take him he had to commit to him

I hadn't heard about the lean towards 2-4-5 and 2-3-6. If that's the case, I have to think they will be drafting at least one CB and FS.

If they sign Parker, they'll have their FS. Fangio likes to play 3 safeties in the dime, so Vereen could get some time there. He and Parker are both guys who have/can play some CB, so you can put one of them over the slot. Could still justify drafting another S though. Definitely need to pick a CB early.

I think they need to sign a DL and draft DL too. That would make the top 3 picks DL, CB, and WR based on biggest needs, though I still don't want to pass up on all the OLBs at the top of this draft, especially since Houston and McPhee can play inside on passing downs.

So what are the more popular blitz packages with this kind of defense? What can we expect the Bears to try to do pressure wise?

No idea if this guy is at all reputable....

@SCAR_179NY

#Bears coaching staff are letting the team know that they will not be allowing the players to have their own radio or television shows! WOW

I guess I'm the only guy that didn't hate the job Mundy did. I thought he had his issues, but overall was a decent in the box safety.

That said I had assumed Rolle would be our FS, but it sounds like he is better at SS, so that definitely leaves Mundy in the backup role and we need a better FS than Vereen, who I like, but as you said can play in nickel or dime. We'll certainly have some versatile safeties if we do sign Parker. Just hope it doesn't cost much, as I'd rather have that money go to the front 7 or OL.

Uh, based on the little I watched of McPhee a couple days ago, if they run some of the Ravens blitzes, you'll see a lot of guys standing up at the line of scrimmage. Like 2 down lineman with a 3-tech and 5-tech, then stand up a LBoutside the tackle (7-tech or wide-9) and then have another LB standing in the A-gap. Obviously, you can drop back the LBs and blitz the LBs off the LOS or safeties or CBs.

Hearing the #Bears are close on a 3 yr deal w/ Mason Foster. ILB has been a FA target since beginning. #NFLFreeAgency

Overall I'm expecting a lot of varied fronts. This won't be a traditional 3-4, and if they can't get that fatty NT I think they'll adapt.

Excellent. Bears doing a great job filling needs with contracts that don't have the cap crippling possibilities like Jared Allen's last year. Nice job so far, Pace!

Along the lines of resting bitch face, this guy seems to have resting stoned face in 90% of his photos.

Assuming we get Parker and Foster, I'll be a CB and a few DL away from feeling really [expletive] optimistic about this defense.

Keep going, Pace.

Definitely. Hopefully he's got an addition in mind for the OL as well. Lining up to draft Cooper at 7 is sounding pretty sexy right now...

I am going with what's his name with the bleach blond hair in "Fargo" vibe, but either way works.

Any chance Bears are interested in recently cut Red Bryant?

I would think they would be. I've heard Karl Klug as a potential 5-technique interest.

Further confirmation on Foster:

Rick Stroud @NFLSTROUD

Bucs FA Mason Foster reportedly working a three year deal with the Bears.
