Losing Godley [expletive] hur....Can't even finish that one. At least we'll go replace Mejia with another guy like him in IFA anyway.

I am a fan of the deal. Montero is a very nice addition.

I just don't have the boner for Montero that others do. True, Mejia is very far way, but if the entire contract comes w/ Montero, guess I just didn't expect to see a real prospect get shipped.

And you didn't.

As long as this means that Montero/Castillo are a tandem, this is a really, really good move. Sit the platoon at 6th in the order to give some stability to the lineup behind Soler/Bryant and not put pressure on Baez/Alcantara to hit in order to still be a productive offense. Right now you've got Coghlan/Valbuena for whatever spot Bryant doesn't take to hit at the top of the order with Castro, I'd like to see Coghlan replaced(Jackson + for Crawford plz, or Itoi if you're cheap), but the offense is looking up.

Neither do I. I don't see how a cumulative 1.2 WAR over the past two seasons for a 31 year-old catcher on the decline warrants 3/40 PLUS prospects.

I expect Cubs to sign David Ross to be Lester's personal catcher, RH platoon and veteranny veteran, while Welly is traded to a backwater front office full of pitch framing troglodytes. Edited by Elrhino

I've got zero problems w/ shipping prospects, and it's not like I had Mejia in my personal top 15 or anything. I am just that underwhelmed by Montero. For David Price or Cole Hamels? Sure, ship off anything that isn't Russell/Bryant/Soler. I'd be fine with that.

Apparently we are. We just keep calling him a "platoon player"

uhhh the lefty hitting half of the platoon is not the one i would call the backup...

So you want good players for bad prospects. Got it.

Eta: directed at ssr

How is a guy projecting to start 110-120 games a backup?

Nope. None

Mejia came to the U.S. this year to make his pro debut, and he opened eyes with his pure stuff. He's adding strength to his 6-foot-7 frame, and he already can reach 97 mph with his fastball. Mejia usually works at 92-94, and his heater is tough to hit, because it features quality life and downhill plane.
The surprisingly-coordinated 6’7/195 righty signed for $850,000 last July 2nd, has lots of downhill plane and huge stuff that should keep getting better: he’s up to 97 mph, flashing an above average hook and there’s still a chance he could end up as a starter. How the frame develops will dictate how this goes, but there’s tons of upside.

That seems very Bullish given his performance the past two seasons, age, etc. I'm curious what his Steamer projections were for the 2014 season?
