Miguel Montero acquired for Mejia and Godley

RT @JeffPassan: Cubs and Diamondbacks are indeed talking about Miguel Montero, as @jonmorosi and @Ken_Rosenthal reported. Arizona return wouldn't be big.

RT @JeffPassan: Miguel Montero is owed $40M over the next three years. Cubs would assume most, if not all, of $ with low-level prospects going to D-backs.

isn't montero sort of a jackass? i recall him having trouble dealing with young pitchers or something.

i think you might be thinking of the other montero

I believe he did have issues with Trevor Bauer.... I think that makes him smart.

AFAIK there's no word that Montero is a bad clubhouse guy - that's presumably Jesus Montero you're thinking of. But with his contract, Torrez and Blackburn is way too much if we eat all of it (speaking of Jesus Montero).

No it was Montero and Bauer

http://archive.azcentral.com/sports/diamondbacks/articles/20120706chemistry-between-miguel-montero-trevor-bauer-off-slow-start-arizona-diamondbacks.html

"I've had pitchers call a game and one of the pitchers was Livan Hernandez, who was a veteran of 15 years in the league so I think he had a better idea than me because it was my rookie year in the big leagues," Montero said. "I had a little plan how he liked to do things.

"I had Randy (Johnson). I don't know. Who's Randy? Just a Hall of Fame guy I had to catch, right? We would talk about it before games as well. We thought we had a game plan and it made things easier for me and for him."

http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/02/12/miguel-montero-on-trevor-bauer-he-never-wanted-to-listen/

“When you get a guy like that and he thinks he’s got everything figured out, it’s just tough to commence and try to get on the same page with you … Since day one in Spring Training I caught him and he killed me because he threw about 100 pitches the first day,” Montero said, adding he told Bauer he should take it a bit slower and work on locating his fastball first before working on his breaking pitches. “And he said ‘yes’, and the next time he threw I saw him doing the same thing,” Montero said. “He never wanted to listen … Good luck to Carlos Santana.”

And I have no problem with any of these quotes FWIW.

As I recall, Bauer's makeup issues are fairly well documented, as well as much of the reason why he was shipped out of AZ.

Well, Towers did a lot of dumb things, so that may not be a real thing. Agree on the make up/have to do things his way stuff though.

Something, something, Bukie something, but I say Castillo's younger, cheaper, and better, so to hell with it.

Kinda where I'm at

Yeah, me too. I can't get excited about this deal and, prospects aside, it seems like a lot to pay a guy who isn't substantially better than what the Cubs already have.

So are you all just completely disregarding all the pitch framing stuff? I'm not buying 100%, but there has to be something to it, even if it's not the gigantic divide the stats make it seem like it is between these two.

I'm not completely disregarding it, but I don't put a lot of stock in it either.

you basically have to completely disregard it to think it's not worth putting stock into given the chasm between these two
